A word from the author: Hello everyone! Ummm…I'm now having trouble finding an explanation for this little drabble box. I've somehow become a little obsessed with 5D's. A little late, I know, but I figure better late than never. YuseixAki is my OTP, guys. I had almost given up on romance at all in Yu-Gi-Oh, but these two… :D Anyways. Most of these drabbles are going to be AU, and again, most of them will be YuAki. And all of these are based off random prompts that popped into my head while I was supposed to be paying attention in class or something. Anyways.

Title: a different kind of fear

Prompt: "Your sudden smiles always surprise me. They're interesting, but dangerous enough to make my heart race." Which was a quote from Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! (which is absolutely fantastic, you should watch it if you haven't already!)

"When I first met you, Yusei, I honestly thought that you were scary."

Yusei laughed. "Me too. When I first laid eyes on you, you were really scary. I was pretty nervous of what would happen to the team if we lost to you."

Aki turned slightly. "I think it was a different kind of fear than what you felt."

Yusei blinked, puzzled. "What do you mean?"

"It was your eyes," she replied softly. "They were so clear, so determined. I felt like you were staring into my soul. Like you knew all of my secrets and weaknesses. Like you knew everything I was feeling. That's why I ran away that first time; why I put that mask on during our first duel. I wanted to hide from those eyes."

Aki smiled then, and turned to face Yusei fully, and he could see everything she felt right then and there.

"But I'm not afraid anymore…because I fell in love with those eyes."

in the pale moonlight filtering into the garage, she hoped he couldn't see the flush spreading across her face

"Aki…" he stepped forward and reached out, cradling her cheek in the palm of his hand.

"Your sudden smiles always surprise me. They're interesting, but dangerous to make my heart race."

He let his thumb rub gently over her cheekbone, and felt the hitch in her breathing.

"No matter what, Aki, don't forget to smile. There's no one in the world with a better smile than yours."

Aki reached up with her own hand and placed it over his.

"What are you saying, Yusei? I could never lose this smile…"

She was still smiling as he leaned in closer, closer, until he could feel that smile against his own lips. Her next words were little more than a whisper, and how good it was to feel it, rather than hear it.

"…because you're the one who gave it to me."

AND THEN THEY KISSED AND LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER. Well. Probably. The kissing thing was really implied in that last bit. (I'm telling you, they totally kissed during that last episode.) Anyways!
