Death

The sky was dark, darker than most would consider natural. But he knew. He knew that this darkness was the darkest it could get, darker than any impurity in the Soul. Darker than any black. Darker than the human eye can register, and the Nightmares the mind flees from.

When everything is stillest. Silent. New and old, combining to make something different. He stood watching, waiting, deciding and undeciding. Wondering when they would come, if they would come. If they were still alive to come and find him. Waiting for them to save him, from… what, he couldn't say, but it was there.

Hiding, wanting him to face it, but scared he would find some way to beat it, like he had 12 times before. And so it lurked, skulked, and stalked. Waiting for the moment he was at his weakest, which, he mused, was now. All he could do now was wait, for it to decide, for it to be over with, for them to it became too much for him.

All he felt was acceptance and… gratitude? Odd. Oh well, something to ponder when he died. But he definitely felt relief. This was another thing to ponder when he died.

In that moment he decided several things:

1. The dark isn't that scary.
2. He did NOT want to be rescued.
3. The dark is much better than the light because, well, it accepted him for who he was, not who he tried to be.
4… why was it hesitating? 'Oo, they better not have arrived' he thought. Take me into the dark, keep me there forever, do what ever you have to do, but don't let me go back there, to the light and endless suffering.'

That's what he wanted to say, but he didn't have enough energy left to speak. And so he thought it instead, and variations of it. Over and over again. 'Take me into the dark, don't let me live, I can't take it back there, amongst the living. I've had enough.'

And as he slipped into the darkness, never to see the light of day again, the last thing he thought he heard someone say in THEIR voice was,

"Don't go. Please don't…"
