Two weeks earlier…
Embry fell a few steps behind his two friends. They were talking about imprints again, his least favourite topic of conversation. Jacob and Quil had it easy. Well, 'easy' would not be the exact word that Embry would use to describe Quil and Claire but at least Quil had found his imprint. He knew exactly who his anchor was, the one person that he could always depend on to make him happy no matter what the universe would throw at him.
But for Embry, no such luck.
"Em, do you wanna get something to eat before we head back?" Jacob turned and smiled.
Embry glanced up and saw that they were stood outside the La Push Diner. He shrugged, "I'm not really hungry but I'll wait with you guys,"
The three of them entered the quiet diner. Jacob and Quil immediately began listing all the items off the menu that they wanted, occasionally asking for Embry's opinion. Embry's eyes wandered around the diner, noticing that 90% of the few people in here were in couples.
A shrill laughter that ripped through the calm of the diner caused him to turn behind him. It was then that he caught sight of a beautiful brown-eyed girl. And suddenly, that shrill laughter was the only thing he wanted to hear all day. He must've been staring very intensely because she looked back and raised her eyebrows at him.
"Hey, what's the matter with you?" Quil asked, painfully drawing his attention back to the table. He and Jacob realised it simultaneously.
One week earlier…
Embry was staring at her again. This time, it was across the cafeteria in school.
"Dude, have you actually spoken to her yet or just watched her like a creep from afar?" Paul joked, taking such a huge bite of his apple that he may as well have popped the whole thing in his mouth. "You know, as a shapeshifter who turns into a giant wolf to fight off vampires on a regular basis, I'm not sure why you're so scared of a 17-year old girl?"
"I'm not scared!" Embry protested. "I just don't want her to be scared off if I'm too forward with her."
All his friends laughed together. "You're probably scaring her off by stalking her!"
"I'm not stalking her!"
"Look," Paul replied, smirking, "she tutors me every Friday, I'll drop in a good word for you, because I'm such a good friend,"
Embry didn't respond. Instead, he went back to looking at Olivia, and for a moment he was sure that she had been looking at him too.
Now…
"Liv, it's that Embry guy again…" Hannah giggled, nodding her head in Embry's direction. "Why don't you just talk to him? Obviously he's into you but he's shy,"
Olivia blushed, "I know he likes me. Paul was literally trying to set us up on a date last week at tutoring."
"So ask him out on a date! It's the 21st century, girls can ask guys out, y'know."
"I… I already like someone else…" she mumbled.
"You mean the hot doctor at the hospital that you kissed one time?" her friend retorted. "Honey, he's engaged and he probably can't even remember your name. Embry, on the other hand, he's handsome and he's really nice from what I've heard about him and he's single,"
Olivia sighed in defeat, "Fine." She stood up, walking straight towards the table that Embry sat at. She saw him tense up slightly as she approached. "Hey Embry, do you want to hang out this weekend?"
"Hangout? Of course! Um…" he felt his cheeks go hot and he blessed his tanned skin from hiding it. "What did you have in mind?"
"Do you wanna see a movie or something?"
"Yeah, yeah I'd really like that," he grinned like an idiot. Olivia couldn't help but find this adorable. "Text me the details…?"
"Of course," Olivia pulled out her phone. She had one unread text from an unsaved number but she knew exactly who it was. It read: I'm sorry about last week. I'll make it up to you.
