Footsteps could be heard behind her, leaving deep impressions in the sand. Strong arms slipped around her slender waist, to hold her close. "Beautiful, isn't it?"
Obi whispered into her ear.
Brittany snuggled deeper into his embrace. "Absolutely" she murmured. The wind picked up, making their traditional Jedi robes billow about their legs. A lone sea gull flapped hard westward, into the wind. As Brittany watched, another sea gull came out of nowhere and both of them together flew off, the task now seeming incredibly easy. Brittany gave a slight smile, thinking of how she, too, had struggled along until Obi came into her life.
As if reading her mind, Obi reached down and gave her a gentle, loving kiss. She reached up to give him a kiss in return when he too bent down for yet another kiss. The wind picked up again, flipping Brittany's hair in front of the two.
Sitting on a sand dune no more than 100 yards away, Qui-gon watches the two lovers. He smiles a sad sort of smile, and watched the two so intensely that he jumped about two feet into the air when a sharp voice behind him sounded. "What doings up here have you?" It was Yoda.
"I was just watching...the sea gulls, that's all." Qui-gon said nervously. He knew how Yoda felt about the two young Jedi and their love. Yoda sat down beside him.
"Okay it is Qui-gon. Know that they are down there do I."
"And you're not doing anything?"
"I would do what? Go on to different place they would."
"Of course." Qui-gon agreed immediately. Yoda scowled down at the two Jedi by the water's edge.
"Act as if they do not know they're Jedi do they. Of this what will become? Teach more Jedi to be rebellious, they will."
"No, I don't think so. Besides, what is wrong with a Jedi loving?"
"Loving Jedi? Easy to manipulate they are. Do anything for the other they would. To much doing maybe. Two become one, and flying emotions we have on our hands. Cause problems done to. We can do what with two Jedi who won't talk to the other?"
"They're responsible kids. Besides, look at them. They've got something special. Don't ruin it." He was pleading now, and he hated it. But for those two...
"Me ruin it? Only if listen would Brittany." Qui-gon grinned. Of course Yoda was right. The headstrong, rebellious Brittany would do anything she wanted...including breaking the Council's laws and doing everything possible to be with Obi. Standing up, Qui-gon brushed the sand from his robes. Obi and Brittany were starting to head up the dune, and he wasn't supposed to be out there. To his dismay, Yoda followed him, chattering away. Oh well he sighed to himself. It's only a short walk into town, and, if he knew Brittany well enough, the two lovers would probably end up wondering down some forgotten part of the beach, arms around each other, walking close. It would be while before they came back. So, he headed up the dune, lost in his own thoughts. Yoda was still talking but who was listening? Thinking of his own lover he had left behind in his quest for Jedi Knighthood, he headed for town, followed by Yoda, and life was good.
(The story goes on to tell what happens to Brittany and Obi in their quest for love, what happens to Yoda's nerves as he tries to put up with them, and of Qui-gon's noble search for the truth. If I ever get around to it, I'll write it someday.)
