"What kind of name is that anyway? Donald? It's pretentious."
"I don't think a name can be pretentious Steven. I think it's just a human quality"
Steven scowled. "Who names their kid that anyways?" He quickly shot a look at Nick who was opening his mouth "If you answer 'Donald's parents', you will be in trouble."
Nick chuckled as Steven kept on. "It's not even that great of a name: Donald. Can you think of anyone great who had a name like Donald?"
"Well the duck seemed to do pretty well for himself. Even without the mouse friend he had."
Steven rolled his eyes. "Besides him. Give me at least three"
Nick thought for a moment. "Donald Pleasence. Wonderful man and fantastic actor. The Great Escape? Doesn't get much better…although I prefer Richard Attenborough to-"
Steven raised his eyebrow at him.
Nick grinned. "Donald Sutherland. He's Canadian but still counts. Donald Trump. He seems to have done well for himself. And then there's Donald Rumsfeld and-"
Steven held up his hand. "Stop right there. I get it. I just don't see it." Nick shut the locker door and turned to face Steven. "You've really got'a stop thinking of ways to ruin this man. Just leave them alone."
They walked out of the locker room and turned into the main hall on their way to the ARC's main room.
"I just don't understand what's he's got is all. Plus I just don't like his name. It's not a strong name. Probably got made fun of in school-"
"He's stable for her Steven. And that's exactly what she needs. Stability. Especially during job like this."
"And I'm all for that! I just don't understand-"
Nick stopped and spun to face Steven. "Don't understand what? How she waited 2 years while you did nothing? How she finally found someone stable who loves her? You're the one who walked away. The only person you can blame here is you" Nick softened "She waited. You never came."
"Thought you were on my side?" asked Steven, a bit hurt at Nick's reaction.
"I am Steven." Reasoned Nick, "But the fact is, she's found some else who she can depend on and who's gonna put her first. At least try to be happy for her."
Steven dropped his head and stared at the floor. "I just- I wish I had another chance"
Nick hit him on the shoulder "Maybe you will. But I'll tell you what: You're not gonna get one making fun of her current beau." Nick started to walk again, towards the main room. "Now let's go! Lester's probably already started."
Steven sighed. It just wasn't fair. If he had one more shot, he wouldn't blow it. If only he could get that one last chance.
