Everyone thought the magician Fai D. Fluorite was always the happy-go-lucky and the enigmatic person he had shown them, and he didn't want to reveal too much, or they would get too invested in him and his life if that ever happened. He didn't want people to worry about him, nor did he want to worry about their safekeeping either, so he wouldn't get hurt. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case when it came to fate and its growing plans for the magician.
Fai wanted to break away from from his world, Celes, the place of his birth, and escape into his own world and many other worlds for that matter, even yearning to become someone else. He had taken the name of his beloved twin so he would keep the name alive, and in a way, he was no longer Yuui, he was Fai. He was someone else, always, just to please himself and to keep the memory alive, and that was honorable of the magician in his mind and way of thinking.
Had he kept living as Yuui and not as Fai, he wouldn't have lived at all. He supposed it was good in a way; he was a powerful magician and a normal young man all at once. And that wasn't even a fantasy; that was the truth. He was living in the fantasy he made for himself. He was living in a dream of his creation, yet it wasn't a dream, but a nightmare.
He wished he would show his true self to everyone he knew and cared for dearly, to Syaoran, to Sakura, to Mokona, and to Kurogane. But deep down a part of him knew that he was clearly a part of inevitability's plan, so he had to act upon it too. He shook off all remnants of pain and torment of his past, and he knew he had to. He made himself appear more carefree. He made himself become more of a mystery to everyone around him and even to himself….and they believed it. But he knew that façade wouldn't last long when the warrior started to figure him out, tearing away the front that he held in front of them and he wanted to know the real magician behind the mask of plastic smiles and the carefree nature that the magician placed in front of his newfound companions.
It was part of his fate that he threw away his true self and to play a part in the world's play. The world was the stage and the people were all actors in the myriad of scenes that take place within it. Fai had to live his life as an actor, one who appeared to be a lighthearted wizard yet emotionally distant from others, so he and they wouldn't be burdened by his scars. He had to live in a fantasy, ignoring the truth that was placed on a silver platter before his eyes and the scars of that truth. He lived his life behind a dream-like façade and become someone else upon the stage that is the world. As long as he was on stage, he would continue to play the role that he was born to do, the character he was destined to portray.
