Boruto gave a confused glance over to Sarada. Sasuke-sensei had said he was getting a special training exercise today. So what was Sarada doing here? Yes, he understood that Sarada was his Sensei's daughter, but Sarada ignored her dad for the most part. Before he could ponder any longer Sasuke walked into the clearing.
Boruto crossed his arms "Why is Sarada here for my special training?"
Sasuke looked at Naruto's son before answering "She overheard your father and myself talking about today's exercise and wanted in."
Sarada sent him a smug grin and Boruto responded by sticking his tongue out at her. "So what are we doing today then?" he asked curiously.
Sasuke leaned up against a tree and started explaining "I've decided that you need to understand Naruto's past. You have it in your head that he was viewed as a hero from birth and grew up in a loving environment. Really that couldn't be further from the truth, honestly he was quite a loser."
Boruto rolled his eyes "That's what you told me before, that he was a loser. How exactly am I going to understand dad's past?"
Sasuke raised an eyebrow "Well if you would let me finish." Boruto's face flushed slightly while Sarada let out a giggle "I am going to use a version of my Tsukiyomi on us. It will feel like we went back to the past. We will see it as things really happened but you won't be able to interact or change anything got it?"
The two kids nodded. Boruto was actually kinda curious about his dad's past, he never talked about it. Always saying 'later' when he had asked. Sarada was extremely interested to see what path the man she admired so much had taken. Plus, she would be able to see her own father when he was little.
Sasuke saw they were ready and activated his Sharingan. He looked them both in the eyes and said "Tsukiyomi."
In the next instant they were back in the village, though it was very different. It was a lot smaller, not as crowded, and definitely not as advanced.
Boruto scratched his head "Um when are we?"
"I'd say about thirty or so years ago. This is when Naruto and I were just a few years younger than you."
Before anyone could say anything else an orange and yellow body went sailing past them and hit the wall roughly. The body let out a grunt as he hit the wall. Boruto's eyes widened as he saw it was a kid. He looked to be around nine. Boruto realized who it was quickly enough, in fact the moment the boy lifted his head he knew. Though he had suspected with the blonde hair. Sarada let out a small gasp as she realized who it was.
Naruto was just starting to get up, he was rubbing dirt off of his cheek, when a white mask hit him sharply on the head. An angry shop keeper was the one that had thrown it, and Naruto from the looks of it. By now a small crowd had gathered and were all glaring at Naruto.
"That's what you wanted right? Take it you little demon and leave. You're bad for business." The shop keeper sneered.
Naruto stood up, the fox mask in one hand, his other clenched into a fist so hard his knuckles were turning white.
"I was just looking at it!" Naruto yelled out. Then he finally noticed all of the glaring eyes around him.
Murmurs were going through the crowd "It's that boy." "The demon is causing trouble again." "Is that menace going to steal that?"
Naruto's eyes went hard and he threw the mask onto the ground "Stop looking at me with those eyes!" then he ran off down the street. Boruto and Sarada didn't fail to notice adults pulling their kids away from him as he ran.
A single thought passed through Boruto and Sarada's minds 'What is going on?'
