This is what I think should have happened in 3x14. Elena should have saved Elijah.

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, waiters are coming around with champagne. I invite you all to join me in raising a glass."

I took a glass from the waiter, a feeling of dread settling in my stomach. I betrayed his trust, but why does that mean so much to me? He betrayed our trust too, that night of the sacrifice when he saved Klaus.

"It provides me with no greater joy, than to see my family, back together as one."

"I'd like to thank you all for being part of this spectacular evening. Cheers!"

I could see Elijah looking at me. Silently I shook my head, and I didn't drink the champagne. In his eyes, I saw he understood. He lowered his already half-raised glass. I knew this meant trouble for me, for us. Right now, it was the right thing to do. I couldn't let him die. I considered him one of my friends. I didn't know if the spell would work now that not everyone in the family had drunk the champagne, but I could almost feel Elijah's gratitude. I only hoped this will work out in the end.

That very same evening, Esther stood next to Finn, letting his blood drop onto the carefully prepared parchment. One by one, the names connected.

All but one. All but Elijah.
