The year was 1991. The Super Nintendo Entertainment System had just released in North America. Thousands of children and teenagers flocked in hoards to buy the new gaming console. In the midst of it all, a school superintendent named Gary Chalmers also sought to buy the "SNES", as it was nicknamed. Yet the demand for the SNES in Springfield was high, and consoles became scarce. Still, Chalmers would do anything just to obtain a Super Nintendo.

Chalmers ran to the local Best Buy to, well, buy the Super Nintendo, as they were the only store left carrying it. Unfortunately, they only had one in stock. He hurried to the gaming section of the store when suddenly... a familiar looking boy with spiky hair grabbed the box! Chalmers grabbed the boy by the collar.

"Hand it over, son," Chalmers said.

"No way, man! I found it first!" The kid glared at the superintendent.

"You don't understand, Bert. I happen to be more privileged than you could ever hope to be. Therefore, I should be the one buying that Super Nintendo."

"My name is Bart, not Bert. And since when did you like video games, anyway?"

"I'm the one who scored twenty thousand points on Ms. Pac-Man!" Chalmers exclaimed.

Bart sighed. "Look, you're like, 70 years old or something. Aren't you too old to be playing video games?"

"I'm 50, you little brat. But perhaps we could compromise. I'll buy the Super Nintendo, and we'll share it. On weekdays, I get to play, and on weekends, you get to play. So what do you say? Have we got ourselves a deal?" Chalmers extended his arm, expecting a handshake of agreement. Instead, Bart placed a palm upon his face.

"Dude, that isn't even fair! Just let me have it. I'm younger than you."

"No!" Chalmers snatched the Super Nintendo from Bart. The two struggled over the box, until it fell out of their grasp and landed hard on the floor. They could hear the system break inside the box. The cashier ran towards them, clearly angry over this. He pointed to Chalmers.

"Hey you! That was the last Super Nintendo in stock here. Now pay up!" Chalmers sighed and searched his wallet, paying the cashier for the damages. Bart glared at the superintendent.

"Great job, now neither of us is going to play it," he said. Suddenly, a Sega Genesis caught Bart's attention. "Cool! They got Sega!" Chalmers was disinterested in the Genesis, however.

Just then, news reporter Kent Brockman appeared on the scene.

"This is Kent Brockman at Best Buy, where a grown man was just fighting with a little boy over the latest gaming system! I'm now standing next to that very man! Tell me, sir, what was the cause of the debacle?"

"I... I just really wanted to play Super Mario World," Chalmers said into the microphone.

"As you can see, this man is a pathetic human being!"
