"Aaaaand..." Maddy finished the final touches of her project. "It's done!"

"It's done?" Danny's father creeped up behind her. "It's done! This cape finder will lead us straight to the capes!"

"The um," Danny stuttered, "the what finder finds what?"

"I can't wait to capture a cape," Jack boasted, "when we do, we'll tear it apart molecule by molecule!"

"Voluntarily of course," Maddy added. "We'll be sure to put them back together, if its possible.'

Jazz didn't look away from her textbook, "stuff like that is exactly why the Protectorate stays way from you guys..."

"MOVE FOREWARD," the tiny mechanism in their hands said. Maddy and Jack stepped forward closer to Danny. Danny backed away. They eventually inched closer to him until he finally reached the wall. "CAPE DETECTED."

His father raised an eyebrow, "that can't be right. This one must be a broken too."

Danny let out a sigh of relief. As he did, he nearly fazed through the wall behind him. Unable to keep up the charade any further, Danny finally said, "actually, Mom, Dad, I need to tell you guys something."

"That's not all you need," Jazz said putting away her book. She stepped forward to the three of them, "you need guidance, and parents that can provide it."

"Sweetie," Maddy said kindly, "I know what we do doesn't always make sense sometimes, but you're only-"

"Sixteen, and legally and adult in some states. And as an adult, I will not let your insane obsession with tinkering to pollute the mind of this impressionable little child." She hugged her brother tightly, "come you abused unwanted wretch, I'll drive you to school."

Unable to speak, Danny was taken out of the kitchen still wrapped in Jazz's arms. "Hmm," Maddy lamented, "that's weird, Jasmine never offers to drive Danny to school."

"There can only be one reason for that. She's hiding something..." He glared towards his children, "she's a cape."
