Each day, when it is 19:55. Light and L go to the front door of their small two-room apartment and wait for Misa to return from work.

Theoretically, when their combined ages were less than 100 and they had more money than most people earned in their lifetime, they shouldn't work anymore. But Misa liked her job, and all those overly-frilly clothes on her were just too cute. (They both had thought so too.)

When the door opens, Misa jumps out to hug them, knocking them over. Light pretends to protest, but Misa ignores him. L just smiles.

"Misa's missed you two so much!" Misa says in third-person, even if it only has been eight hours.

Then, they head back to their computer room, where Light and L continue to work. In the darkness, illuminated only by the glow of the monitors, Light and L sit, side by side, the silence broken only by the typing. At first Misa is quiet, leaning against Light's back and her face half-hidden in his hair, but then she begins to talk, asking them two cheerfully about the latest murder case and how they're going bring justice to the malefactor.

(This is their closeness; a strange one no doubt, but still real)

After three hours, they finish their work for the day, and it's time to dinner. Despite being easily able to solve some of the world's most puzzling questions, Light and L can't cook. And Misa can only cook sweets. L is overjoyed by this, and Light just pretends that it isn't happening, because he can't, he can't just live on the sugar and pure calories, but it's been months since he's had an actual meal, and he's still existing.

When they finish, Misa hugs both of them again, and this time, both of them embrace back. L slouches over to kiss her.

As they head to sleep, they know that tomorrow Misa will go to work again, and the whole process will start all over.

(But there's no place like home)
