"I thought I made it clear that I didn't want to see you again today."

Mark ignores the comment and just gives her a small smile as he walks up to her, where she stands by the nurses station.

"I heard about your dad, being in the hospital. Candy?" Lexie looks down at the paper covered piece of chocolate her ex-boyfriend just put down on the desk.

"Screw you and your candy." She says, annoyed. "Can you just go? Please?"

Mark sighs and turns to leave, but comes to a halt and turns back around when Lexie starts speaking again.

"You ever notice how my sister's a jerk?" Lexie starts, as she picks up the peanut butter cup and starts to uncover the plastic.

"I, um.. I wouldn't say-"

"'You gotta give him your blessing.' What a bunch of crap. Y'know, let him be happy? What about me?" Mark looks at her with a surprised look as she puts the candy in her mouth. "You know, everybody's making these huge life decisions and they're not even considering how it'll effect me. How I'll feel."

Mark picks up another chocolate from the pocket of his lab coat and puts it on the desk in front of her.

"You know, I'm supposed to be such a big part of their lives, and yet they're leaving me out of the conversation completely." She picks up the piece of candy as he listens to her, a look of curiosity and understanding crossing his features. "They're starting up new families, and springin' it on me, when it's already a done deal. Y'know. 'Hey, Lexie, guess what? I found a tatted up skank to be your mommy.' 'Hey, Lexie, I'm gonna have a baby, and you're just gonna have to be okay with that.'"

Mark gives her a confused look. "Hey, wait a second, your dad's having a baby?"

"No, not my dad. You, Mark. You're having a baby." He looks at her with concern as her eyes begin to tear and he instantly gets a pang of guilt. "And you didn't even ask my opinion. You just clobbered me with it, again. And you're leaving me behind. Again."

Lexie looks at him with teary eyes and shrugs at the accusation. "So, we're done. We have to be." He looks at her with sad eyes and lets the guilt cross his features, begging to make her understand that he's not happy with any of it.

She sighs as the realization of what she's just done dawns on her. "Crap. I've just revealed all of my problems to you. That's just.." She sighs again as she feels the tears threatening to spill. "That's just great."

"Look, Lex, I-" Mark tries to talk, but nothing comes out. Lexie stares downwards before lifting her head up, meeting their eyes.

They stare at each other for a while before she begins to slowly walk away. "Thanks for the candy."

He looks at her as she disappears down the hallway, her dark hair bouncing on her head as she runs away from him once again.
