The Visit
Sorry I'm so late,
but I've been out walking
Trying to find a way to tell you
What I think you already know
I'd never want to hurt you 'cause darling I still love you
But things aren't like they used to be
It's time for letting go
Chris Larabee placed the dozen red roses on top of the grave and stepped back. "Hey darlin'." He jammed his hands in his black duster, and stared at the headstone of wife and son. Long gone, but certainly not forgotten.
"You know, after you and Adam died... I never thought I could find someone as special as you. What we had was so magical, so strong, I thought it was gone forever."
Chris closed his eyes but continued to talk as if Sarah and Adam were still with him. "I remember when Adam drew that picture of us for Valentine's Day." He smiled slightly. "I found it yesterday while cleaning up. It made me think that I should finally tell you."
"I... I met someone Sarah. She ain't exactly you, but she helped me find somethin' I thought I lost." He opened his eyes, a lone tear trailing down his cheek. "I think you two would have liked her. She has a fiery spirit this one."
Lookin' back when we first started
I never thought I'd see this day
If only I could write the pages
Our story wouldn't end this way
"I miss both of ya so much," Chris whispered against the wind. He knelt down and ran his finger over Sarah's name. "You'll always have a place in my heart my love. I'll never forget you."
His finger traced over the letters of Adam's name. "And you'll always be my little man." Chris took out a little hot wheel and placed it on the grave. He felt rather than saw someone standing next to him. Chris straighten up and draped and arm around his girlfriend's waist.
"You okay Cowboy?" she asked.
He lightly kissed her forehead. "Yeah. Darlin', I want ya to meet some special people..."
