(Author's Note)
Don't think me lazy for the end, although I was lazy with it. It's sort of a lazy day/night for me right now. Sorry it's not great. Written from a rush of angst and anxiety.
Disclaimer: Don't own Hawaii Five-0. If I happened to own it, nothing bad would ever happen to anyone. Instead, it would focus on Danny and Steve's burgeoning relationship.
Danny closed his eyes and tried not to think of the future. His father had just lost his job and his mother was going crazy.
There were so many questions now. Would they be okay? Would they need to sell the house? Would Danny's mother need to get a job? What about health care? Unemployment benefits, were there any?
Danny couldn't help the tears from falling. He pressed his palms against his eyes in an attempt to stop the tears. It didn't work. He cussed fluently and angrily. It didn't make him feel better, but it was something to do, something to keep his mind off the present problems. It didn't work for very long.
He beat his fist on the bed, several more cuss words flowing from his mouth. He felt thankful that his parents weren't home at the moment, having gone to some department of who-the-hell-cares.
He screamed a particularly dirty word before collapsing into tears once more. He wasn't sure why he felt so angry, he just knew that he was. It was the only emotion he felt at the moment. Just anger, no sadness.
He felt a hand on his back, and instantly a rush of fear rushed into his belly, causing it to clench and shudder. He turned, fist ready to smash into a face. The face before him was rather blurry, but he knew Steve's concerned face rather well.
Steve sat beside him on the bed while Danny unclenched his fist, choosing instead to cover his face with his hands, still crying into them. Steve draped an arm over Danny's shoulder in a comforting way. He didn't speak, just comforted Danny silently.
Danny's shoulders shook and his breathing quickened, stopped, and began again. Steve moved to hug Danny. The boy didn't pull away.
When Danny finally stopped his sobbing, and just began cursing, shouting, and bitching; Steve just suggested other salty words, shouted along with him, and followed his example in bitching. That's what friends were for, right?
When Danny finally wore himself out, he glanced at Steve's face. "Thanks, Steve. I feel..way better."
Steve smiled. "Good. That's what I came here for."
Danny lay a head on Steve's shoulder. "You're the best boyfriend ever," he murmured before closing his eyes tiredly.
Steve smirked. "I know," he replied as he pressed his lips to Danny's forehead.
