You are nobody.

Even to your family you are nobody. You're the plain sister, the quiet sister, the sister nobody notices.

Your mother only really cares for Marguerite. She's the daughter who will bring fame and fortune to the family. The only one whom your mother really cares for. The one who will marry a prince.

You don't believe Marguerite cares for anything but herself. The only time your mother and sister notice you when they belittle you. Jacqueline you really must stop eating so much, Jacqueline it going to be impossible to find you a good much, Jacqueline why cant you be more like your sister. The last one stings the most.

You aren't like your beautiful but selfish sister. You don't want to marry a prince (all that attention, not to maintain he'll probably spend all his time with his mistresses), what you want is someone who will love you, someone who will see you.

When you were young you used to love your mother and sister, but when their ambitions got the better of them they changed. You hated them for a while but that faded too. As sad as it is, you don't really feel anything for them now.

Not even Danielle really notices you. You don't torment her but you're still the Baronesses daughter and therefore not her friend. The other servants are the same. All they really see is Danielle.

Mother, Marguerite and Danielle are people who others pay attention to. They are confident, cunning and beautiful. You are the silver to their gold.

You suppose that's why you're here at the buffet, dressed as a horse, while your sister is dancing and dressed as a peacock. You suppose both your costumes are appropriate considering whose wearing them.

You reach for another piece of food and notice a man staring in your direction. You carefully look around, yes, it's you he's staring at. You look back and he smiles at you.

He, like you, is dressed at as a horse and is certainly nobodies idea of handsome but you don't care.

You smile back, the first real smile you've had in years.

Someone finally sees you.
