Grace turned the lights off in the kitchen and made her way out to her car. She was getting tired of working the late shifts at the diner. It was beginning to be the same thing every day, but she was afraid if she left, she wouldn't see him again.
The gravel crunched beneath her worn shoes. Her long brown hair was pulled into a messy ponytail, her makeup done lightly. But after a long day, she just felt tired and a little disappointed.
Her heart sped up when she saw the sleek black Impala parked under the diner's sign. It couldn't beā¦could it? She walked slowly towards the Impala, her throat tightening. She couldn't believe it when he stepped out and into the darkness. Grace dropped her bag and ran to him. She felt overwhelmed with emotion, but she had to touch him.
He wrapped his arms around her tightly, breathing her in. She felt tinier in his arms than he remembered, but she smelt the same to him. Green apples and fresh air. Grace pulled back to look at him.
"I've been wanting to come back for a long time." Dean murmured.
His mouth quivered slightly as he attempted to smile. Grace had seen him in these moments of vulnerability. She didn't mind him like this.
"It's okay. You're here now." Grace felt his arms tighten around her.
Dean couldn't find the words to say to her. He wanted to tell her everything and one day he would. But, with everything happening, he was too damn grateful to be there with her now.
"Dean, you're scaring me." Grace whispered. It had been months since she had last seen him. Their interactions had been less and less frequent but he had never strayed too far from her thoughts. He would never know how much she really cared about him, how long she had waited for him to come back to her.
Dean looked tired, his eyes somewhat swollen. Dean rubbed the side of his face. Dean was the first thing he had thought of after he made his deal, after Sam was safe. And now he only had a year.
"Don't be scared Gracie." Dean murmured. Her fingers interlocked with his as he pulled her closer to him. She relished being near him again. His scent, just the feel of him, it was all perfect. Even though her relationship with Dean was far from perfection, she wouldn't have changed it.
"I missed you." Grace looked into his light green eyes.
Dean smiled, "I got back as soon as I could. I'm sorry I've been away so long."
"How long are you in town?" Grace asked, afraid of the answer.
Dean looked at her, "A year."
Grace smiled, "Really?"
He nodded.
