The concept of 'being human' was one that had always disgusted Light Yagami. For him, 'being human' entailed a long list of unpleasant things;

-humans were selfish
-humans were vain
-humans were cruel
-humans were greedy
-humans were sinful

Those girls who flocked together like starlings, squabbling idly on fences; they were humans.

Those boys who beat and bullied the weak and helpless simply because they could; they were humans.

Those murderers and rapists and thieves and criminals and all the other wicked people you saw behind television screens on a day to day basis; they were humans.

Those creatures crippled with pain and disease, rotten flesh and sunken eyes, the sort you saw in biology textbooks, the sort you dissected in medical school; they were humans.

Light much preferred to be a god – be the God. It was easier to look down from a plinth, Death Note in one hand and pen in the other; life after life extinguished with the stroke a pen. Salvation had never been so easy.

But paving the path to righteousness came at a great price, for in a matter of days people tried to stop his plans – selfish, vain, cruel, greedy, sinful people. Rotten people.

Light hated to be surrounded by humans because they were constant reminders he wasn't immortal after all. He was still mortal; they could still hurt him, he could still die. L liked saying that; when Kira was captured he would be brought to justice.

The justice of humans; but Light was a human, too, and he still hurt and ached and bled just like the ones he had tried so hard to exterminate.

Light wasn't God, not even a god.

("No – you're just a murderer.")

He lay on the floor, finally brought to same level of his adversaries, eyes flickering and heart ceasing to beat; Ryuk's laughter echoed in his ears even after he stopped moving and breathing and just started fading.
