She was on her bed, crying.

"Starfire?" he called through the door. He pounded on it, then said, "C'mon Star, open up."

She took a breath, trying to calm herself, and managed to whisper spitefully, "You know the code. Open it yourself."

Outside, he did as he was told. He punched in the code and walked into her room. "Starfire…" he began. "Starfire…" He was unsure of what to say. "Starfire…"

This time, he was cut off by her. "Robin," she said, wiping her eyes. She didn't want him to see her cry, even if he already knew she had been. "Saying my name over and over again will not help anything. You know why I am feeling this pain, this sorrow. And unless you have come here with some solution, I would please ask you to go away."

"Starfire. You think I'm not feeling the same way? You think this isn't affecting me at all either? I just wanted to talk, Star. Nothing's ever going to happen if we don't talk. And you can't stay holed up in your room for the rest of your life."

"You have done enough talking, Robin. If I recall correctly, you did all of the talking a few days ago. And there is a reason I do not come out of my room. There is a reason I have not gone out to help the team fight these past days. I cannot fly." There are other reasons, too, like seeing you, but I will not tell you that.

"What do you mean you can't fly?" Robin asked, shocked.

"I cannot fly. My powers are governed by my feelings. I am unable to feel happiness; therefore, I have lost my ability of flight. Now, if you please, leave. I am feeling a great sickness of the home, and I wish to be left alone."

"Well, sure, I guess. I mean…yeah. Okay, I'll go."

He turned, and was almost out the door, when he stopped. He turned around to look at the beautiful girl sitting there on the bed, about to burst out crying once again. He longed to comfort her, but knew that was not his right anymore. After all, he had broken up with her. So all he said, wistfully, was "But we do need to talk."

"Yes Robin, we will talk. Just not now." Or anytime soon.

"Alright…look, Star, I know this is hard, it's hard for me, too. But you need to get over it, or, at least be able to function. This team still needs you, Starfire."

But do you? She thought to herself. Just let me hear that you still need me, and then maybe I shall be better.

Robin turned around, and left.

Starfire stared after him, stared at the boy who used to be her boyfriend, who used to say he loved her, and began to weep.

Starfire was able to help her team again. It took time, and courage, and strength, but she was able to face them, face him, and face the villains once again. But something had changed. Starfire never was able to fly quite as high, for quite as long, ever again.
