Yes I Do ~ A Pre-War Story
Do I cry in the night?
Do I long to hold you tight?
Do I wake wanting you?
Yes I do.
Harry watched as Hermione and Ron sat in the corner of the tent talking and laughing. It didn't seem as though they were out in the middle of nowhere, living on whatever they were able to scrounge or fish up. Had it really been six months since he had last seen her? He sat in silence until finally Ron and Hermione fell asleep in their beds.
Harry forced himself to get up, and he walked slowly to his bed. A single tear fell down his face as he fell into his sleeping bag, and it seemed ages before he was finally able to fall asleep. Her face wouldn't leave the underside of his eyelids, and he wanted more than anything to fall into her arms and hold her tight. The feeling almost made him ache. Finally he melted into dreams. They were wonderful, happy dreams, full of her laugh and kisses. Harry woke, longing, aching, and he cursed into the night. Where are you?
Do I recall every day
How you took my breath away?
Do I remember loving you?
Yes I do.
Harry spotted the patronus in the woods, and something made him follow the silver doe. Was it her? No, her patronus was different. Still, he couldn't bring himself to not follow her. As he walked through the woods following the silver doe, Ginny's face was in his mind, and he thought longingly of how he felt everytime he kissed her. Her hair was soft and smelled of Jasmine. It was as though he couldn't breathe when he kissed her, and every second felt like a thousand. He wanted to be with her, to feel the dying, breathless way he felt everytime she was near. He longed to love her, in more than one way.
I don't live in the past
Wanting love that wouldn't last
And I don't ache like I used to
Yes I do.
The months seemed to go by so fast, and still they weren't getting anywhere. Were they following a dead end road? Hermione seemed to think so, but even as he sat alone in the dark, waiting, he thought about her. Ron was sitting awake too, probably watching Hermione sleep. He did that a lot recently, and it reminded Harry of how he was with Ginny. "Ron, you should get some sleep, mate." Harry got up out of his bunk and stood beside Ron.
"Harry, do you still love my sister?"
Harry was surprised by the question, and he wanted to yell at Ron and tell him it was a crazy question. "I don't live in the past, Ron. There was a reason we ended it back there."
Ron shook his head. "Do you still love her?"
"Yes, but the pain is going away, Ron." Ron nodded and finally went to his own bunk. Harry sighed and went to the door of the tent to sit and watch. He wanted Ginny to be with him now more than ever, but he wasn't going to let Ron or Hermione know that. Ron's snores fell through the tent finally, and Harry sighed. "I just liked to your brother, Ginny. How I wish you were hereā¦"
Yes I do dream of all we had together
Yes it's true we lost it all forever
Do I pray anyway?
Yes I do.
Harry walked silently through the castle. He didn't care if he was heard anymore. This was the end and he knew it was. It had been a year since he had last shared a kiss with Ginny, but somehow it didn't matter. He couldn't bear to say goodbye to her, but as her red hair came into view in the dark grounds, the ache of wanting her came back. He wanted to run into her arms and tell her how foolish and stupid he had been, but it was too late for that.
Goodbye, my love. He continued on silently, the resurrection stone clutched in his hand. The trees grew thicker the farther he went, his parents, Remus, and Sirius following behind him. He knew he had to do this, but he wanted to race back to Ginny and run away with her. As he pulled the cloak over his head, he thought of her. Then there was a flash of green light. Come with me, Ginny. And then it was dark.
