London had been pleasantly surprised when Ryan had stayed to dance to a slow song with her. She'd worried that he would've felt nervous about going to prom at a school he'd only attended a few months and hadn't had the best experiences in. That was why she'd chosen him when their group paired up to go as friends as Ryan seemed closer to her than with the other two girls. That's what she'd told herself. It didn't matter if the six of them were going as friends. She could've just as easily gone with Jake or Marco and it would've been the same.

For some reason though, the thought of Ryan with one of the other girls upset her. She told herself it was because he was her best friend. Perhaps that was why she felt strangely comfortable slow dancing with him. Sure she was close with Jake and Marco, but with Ryan it was different. It had always been different.

At least now that her and Cameron had broken up, she didn't feel about being close to Ryan. Wait where had that thought come from?

"This is kind of nice, I'm glad you convinced me to come," Ryan's voice brought her back out of her thoughts.

"I'm glad I did too," she answered. Her heart began to beat faster as she noticed how close they were.

They shared a relaxed smile and then Ryan commented on how blue her eyes appeared even in the low lighting. London returned the favor by complimenting his own which she could never figure out the color of, but still loved that mix of blue, grey, and green. It was just one of the many things she loved about him.

London would've fallen over at the realization had Ryan's arms not been around her waist.

She was in love with her best friend and probably had been for quite awhile. If she hadn't been distracted by her relationship with the football quarterback, she would've noticed what was right in front of her much earlier.

Ryan sent her a look of concern as her fingers grasped the collar of his jacket. "London?" he questioned as she gazed deep into his eyes like she was seeing him for the first time.

It was exactly like he'd been fantasizing about since the friend he was secretly in love with asked him to accompany her to prom only this time it was real.

Not wanting to let this moment go, Ryan leaned down and kissed London like he'd wanted to since the day he'd met her. London returned the kiss, feeling a spark like she'd never felt before.

Both had the biggest grins on their faces when they pulled away.

"How long?" London asked.

"From the beginning," Ryan replied, "how about you?"

"Same," she said, "I just needed time to realize it."

The song ended and they returned to their table. There they were met by their friends who were happy they'd finally acted on what everyone had noticed right away.

Later that evening, London was crowned prom queen and had to dance with her ex who unfortunately was king. It was awkward, especially since he'd seen the kiss she'd shared with Ryan. Cameron pestered her about it until the customary dance was over. Then London couldn't get away fast enough. That chapter of her life was over. She had something better now.

Ryan smiled as she slide into the seat next to her.

"That looked very uncomfortable," he commented on her dance with Cameron.

"It was," she replied, "nothing like it is with you. I wish I'd noticed sooner."

Ryan smiled wider and took her hand.

They noticed Cameron approaching them and London pulled Ryan up so they could escape the inevitable fight with her jealous ex. They slipped through the crowd and out into one of the outside hallways of the building their school prom was being held.

"I think we should hide until he cools down," London suggested.

Ryan nodded in agreement.

"Definetely," he said, "and perhaps I can kiss you again. You know how many times I've daydreamed about that since we met?"

"No," London replied with a mischievous smirk. "Maybe you can show me."

Ryan laughed as she pulled him behind a nearby pillar. He hadn't expected prom to be this fun.
