Amelia's Last Farewell
A name engraven on a stone
In death's quiet yard
It stands alone
On its worn rock shard
~0~
Lurking close, in ever patient wait;
A beast whose face deceives
A hunger which hast ne'er been sate
And no regard for pitiful pleas
~0~
Great wings so gray and dark
Arms bared for all to see
In its eyes there is no spark
Neither is it he or she
~0~
The creature often seems to weep
Face covered shamefully
Disguised as one quite meek
Oh so skillfully!
~0~
But lo! See what has appeared!
Naught but a vessel blue
With four companions oh so near!
And one with a single clue
~0~
One approaches,near he strays
To read the name upon the stone
But beware! The angel's on its way!
For his act he'll soon atone
~0~
The name he reads: his very own!
The beast comes ever near
He'll soon be all alone
For lo! no longer is he here!
~0~
The demon now is seen
All is now made clear
Their grief so very keen
And their hearts are filled with fear
~0~
Her tears they flow and stream
Yet forward still she comes
With hair so red it gleams
And skin more fair than some
~0~
She faces the winged monster
And cries farewell
To him and her
Then surrenders to the beast so fell
~0~
In a comely green lawn
The lovers meet-
Where feed the buck and fawn
Their embrace oh so sweet!
~0~
"Together," cries she
"Forever and always
Or it was never meant to be!"
And hand-in-hand they make their way
