Disclaimer: I do not own The Lord of the Rings or any of the people and places from it. They are the property of J.R.R. Tolkien.

Notes: This is from Merry's point of view. I think it's based mostly on the book. but yeah, 'I think'. Also the poem is sort of reminiscent of Dr. Seuss' style (I noticed this after I was done) so if anything's humorous, it was unintentional. Anyway that's enough junk, I hope you like my piece. Thanks.

The Lady all in White

.

When I first beheld the lady of the land,

Her skirt flying about her hand

I thought 'she is the most beautiful lady ever to be seen'

All of this I truly mean

.

Clad in an elegant dress of white

I could see she did not sleep at night

A constant sense of fear, I saw on her part

For those she kept near her heart

.

As I drew closer to meet her better

I feared that I might need a sweater

Within her eyes, all was cold

I almost thought 'evil has her in hold'

.

But then she spoke so soft and sweet

And warmth returned to my feet

Her voice was smooth I must confess

It seemed to me like a caress

.

I noticed later she watched Strider most

This for sure I do not boast

Still inside she reminded me

Of a flower, wild, but not free

.

Later, when it was time to go to war

I met a rider I had not seen before

He did not appear to be like the rest

Though, to me he seemed the best

.

He said to me 'Dernhelm is my name

Come with me, and evil we will maim'

Atop his horse I did climb

Without a sound, without a rhyme

.

He was small and scrawny unlike Éomer

So I hoped his horse would not rear

For I am small and he was light

Oh how I thought that it might!

.

It took a while to reach Gondor

With much less talk than before

Soon we found the red arrow bearer was slain

So Théoden's message was never gained!

.

To the fields eventually we did come

And so suddenly I felt dumb

Why did I follow the riders there?

Not to die; I said a prayer

.

Then everything happened all so fast

That now it seems so far in the past

The Witch-King swooped down before us

And my lady killed his beast with a great thrust?

.

For yes, indeed I had not known

Although the signs should have shown

For Dernhelm was no man at all

But the lady, which I now recall

.

Oh brave maid of little fright

How brave that day, you did fight

To slay that which no man could

But somehow inside I knew you would

.

Long years have passed since those days

And my time with her seems so far away

But I'll never forget my first sight

Of Éowyn; the Lady all in white
