Z stood over Elisa's casket, trying to keep his face straight and his eyes dry. It was strange. He had only seen her once after escaping, and this happened. It ate at him to know that he could've stopped this before it happened.

Maybe that's why I let him go, Z thought, remembering Ben. I didn't want any more death to follow me. It was a solemn thought indeed, that the responsibility of life and death lay in him.

"Z?" a voice called from behind him. The voice belonged to Shawn Spencer. "Well, I didn't expect to run into you."

"The hospital wouldn't let me out for Elisa's funeral, so I settled for this," Z said, indicating the funeral parlor in which they were standing. "At least I get to be alone with her this way. Why are you here?"

"I'm here for Yang," Shawn answered.
"Oh, of course. I nearly forgot that she was here. I suppose I should pay my respects to her, too." Both of them were silent for a moment. "I can't believe she's dead," Z said at last. "She shouldn't be. Yang deserves to still be alive."

Shawn waited a long moment before speaking. "You know, she-" he chuckled emptily. "She died saving me."

Again, a hush fell over them, and Z leaned over toward Elsa's body, resting his hands on her coffin, and stared for a moment. Without looking back, he said, "She was a good listener, Yang was. She knew what it was like to be me."

"I only got to see her a few times," Shawn said. "I wish I had visited her in the hospital, now. I never got to talk with unless I was… Well, trying to prevent a murder, and-" his voice stopped, and he opened and closed his mouth a few times. He sighed, "I just wish that weren't the case."

"I didn't know you felt so strongly about her."

"Oh, well, I wasn't really close with her. I was just her only living contact who isn't in prison or an asylum, so they wanted me to take care of the funeral arrangements. I should probably get back to that, actually," Shawn said.

"Well, it was good to see you again," Z said with a half-smile.

"You too, Z." With that, Shawn walked away, and Z was left alone with Elisa and his guard.

Z bent down and held his face near Elisa's. He began to sing in a whisper, the first song he ever wrote.

Elisa, it's pain to linger on. I miss you so without you beside me.

But I, must find a way for it, so let these words be our parting.

He spoke one last silent phrase. "I love you, my angel." A single tear fell from his eye, and he walked away for good.
