James Potter trying to sneak out for the full moon with his invisibility cloak, panics when he hears teachers coming down the hallway, transforms into stag. Minerva McGonogall, Filius Flitwick and Albus Dumbledore come into sight with a lantern floating along behind them casting a halo of light...they're partway past James when they stop.
Filius and McGonogall just stare, lips parted, breath held, completely at a loss for words. Dumbledore smiles serenely, "lovely decor the house elves come up with," and continues his late-night stroll down the hallway.
McGonogall exhales and releases a breathy: "well," gaze unwavering. Flitwick, also still staring, says "is that a headless stag? Is it - breathing?" The two professors share a flabbergasted glance before turning one more to the animal.
McGonogall huffs, muttering a barely audible "too damn tired for this..." and follows after Dumbledore.
Flitwick stays behind, gaze locked upon the anomaly. The stag's tail suddenly twitches. Flitwick jolts, seemingly coming out of his befuddled trance, then hurries off ranting under his breath about having "never been able to understand elven culture."
James, now alone in the hallway, stands stock still, muscles tensed, invisibility cloak draped across his antlers and falling over his head and neck. Suddenly, he shifts, tilting his face up to view the moon through the window. He leads forward and prances off, still in stag form, to meet his friends - invisibility cloak securely hooked onto his antlers, flapping in the breeze.
