Prologue:

It was their senior year... The match before the finals…

That's how Kageyama remembered the event. The event that ended the 'duo' team of him and Hinata. The other team had the ball now after their libero deflected one of the younger member's spikes before it hit the floor sending it over to the setter who lobbed it up to the spiker who happened to be the one that Hinata was marking this time. That's the moment that everything started to change, the moment things went to hell. Hinata jumped up to block the ball as usual, but instead of hitting the ball with his hand the striker nailed him right in the face with enough force to knock him back down the floor hitting his head with a loud crack.

"Come on Hinata… Get up we have to strike back you piece of shit." Kageyama knew calling him names would piss the other off enough to get up from the fall. He waited a couple minutes without a response from Hinata. That was when Kageyama remembered breaking formation at the sound and rushing over to the tiny spiker.

"Hinata! Hinata?!" Kageyama sat next to him as the other slowly picked himself up into sitting position.

"Kageyama? W-what's going on? Everything's gone black… Where are you?!" Hinata was freaking out looking in every direction as if he were trying to find the setter.

"I'm right here Hinata." Kageyama turned towards Coach Ukai and yelled for him to get the medics as he sat beside him. Hinata's eyes that were usually happy and lit up from being excited all the time were dull and unfocused.

Kageyama didn't even finish the match as he left everything up to the first years and went with Hinata and the others to the hospital.

Hinata was pronounced legally blind and they had lost the match taking them to the final game. The arguing and bickering between the two lifelong frenemies had gotten even worse and Kageyama wasn't sure how much more he could handle with Hinata's blaming himself for losing the game or all the screaming the other did when someone tried to help him. It was shortly after that Kageyama did to Hinata that his own teammates had done to him back in Junior High.

He abandoned Hinata.

(Time Skip: 4 years later in Tokyo)

"Kageyama! We did it! We've graduated from college and are on our way to becoming adults!" a guy sitting next to him exclaimed.

"Nichiama, would you try and keep yourself calm?" Kageyama exclaimed as he finished packing up the last of his things from the apartment the two had shared through college. The brash older man closed his mouth but then opened it again within a few minutes.

"Did you accept the invitation to go into the pros?" Kageyama clenched his fist at the words.

"No… I've not decided yet. I've got a few months to think it over before they'll close off the drafting." He stuffed the last remaining items into his bag thinking just how annoying his roommate could be sometimes.

"Dude you're really good. I've already accepted the invitation and I'm joining on the team. You should too, we are a good pair." He smirked and walked out the door. Kageyama wanted to correct him and say that he was an adequate replacement, and that when he played now it was nothing like how he had played with him, the boy that wanted to be like the Tiny Giant and his spiker that could hit anything he gave to him. Hinata.

"No… Don't think about him anymore." He sighed picking up the bag and heading out.

"I'll see you later." Nichiama waved and Kageyama nodded heading towards the train station and then back home, back to Torono Town and back to Karasuno.
