Her memories were fleeting. These were her last moments. Petra always deemed it a lie; those who claimed that one could see their life flash before their eyes when they pass on. No, all she saw now was he. The person who corrupted all of her memories in these final ticks. Her mind seemingly flashing through all her moments of him. Thinking or being near him. Talking about him to others, even the instant when she realized how hard she had fallen for him.
Despite his mannerism, his cold and distant ways, he captivated her entirely. Her sole purpose as of late to be of pure use to him. Her only last regrets were that she couldn't express any of this to him. To show him the love he deserved. To provide him with the love she now sought to only give him. Petra was entirely mesmerized by her captain; it was plain to see by all… except him.
As her body became colder and number, all her senses of being able to move gone, she tried to ignore it all. Petra was forced to look up at the breathtaking view, what a sight to die seeing. Her breaths became shorter and she knew her end was coming she was going to die.
She spent her time recollecting all her letters to her father. From her first to her very last. From the first day she was captivated by Levi, even in her last letter to her father she expressed her dream of being of use to him. In the legion and in his personal life.
Petra could feel her inner smile, but was too weak to let it spread across her face. She was entranced in an ample vegetable state.
With sensitive ears she heard footsteps by her. Cool hands soon cocooned her body, holding her clothes to a firm choice. Petra couldn't move her head to see whom it was, but she knew. Deep down she knew. He would've always found her.
"Petra," he whispered. His usual rigid tone now soft, even some what pleading.
Her body gave up any sort of fight and she went limp in his grasp. Though everything her body was broken, despite probably all internal bleeding she could possess, she was happy. He was with her in her last moments.
"I should have been here," he whispered to the fading life.
With the little life she had left, she decided to use it in her final words to Levi. She wouldn't let him carry such a pain; this unneeded burden, because it wasn't his fault. It wasn't anyone's fault.
"Darling…. Don't be afraid… I have loved you… for a thousand years…. I'll love you for…. a thousand more," she breathed softly, her vision becoming more blurred. She felt Levi grip her harder, and whisper something back. She lost all senses, but she would have liked it to be at least some words that she was truly useful to Levi.
This was her end, but it was a beautiful one.
