She walked in and Severus knew that something was wrong. He had never seen her so mad before. Well actually there was that one time when he had called her sister a few choice words for the way she had made fun of his nose. But even then Lily had been forgiving. Now though, she looked like she was going to commit muder.

He watched as she walked strait over to the head table and spoke in low tones to the Headmaster. When he nodded and smiled just a little she walked back out of the hall doors closing behind her.

"Students I have a wonderful announcement. Ms. Evans has decided to grace use with a song that she hopes will lighten the hearts of our magnificent school."

Oh, well that would explain why she had talked to him.

When the hall doors opened students stopped eating and a lot of mouths opened; because Lily Evans one of the schools most modest dressing girls was not wearing her usual outfit. She was dressed in hip hugging faded blue jeans with worn holes in the knee area, along with a tight fitting dark green tube top that had the words 'Becareful I Bite' on the front. She had no shoes he noticed as she made her way over to his table.

The music was not slow nor was it fast but it held a tone of sadness and comedy.

Well, you filled up my head with so many lies.
You twisted my heart till somethin' snapped inside.
I'd like to give it one more try,
But my give-a-damn's busted.

As she sang she walked towards Severus and gave him a sorrow filled look.

You can crawl back home, say you were wrong;
Stand out in the yard and cry all night long.
Well, go ahead and water the lawn:
My give-a-damn's busted.

I really wanna care.
I wanna feel somethin'.
Let me dig a little deeper:.
No, sorry: nothin'.

At this there was an outburst from the Gryffindor table. Looking over Lily and Severus spotted James Potter standing, smilling and clapping at the sadd look on Severus' face.

Lily wasn't going to have James laughing at her or Severus, no matter what. She was tired and completely ready to give them both a talking to. So turning her attention to James she continued in her song.

You can say you've got issues, you can say you're a victim.
It's all your parents fault, after all you didn't pick 'em.
Maybe somebody else has got time to listen:
My give-a-damn's busted.

Well, your therapist says it was all a mistake:
A product of the Prozac an' your co-dependent ways.
So who's your neighbor these days?
My give-a-damn's busted.

After singing to James and making him go red whether from embassament or anger no one knew but James. With his little friends red with supressed laughter she turned on the teachers.

I really wanna care.
I wanna feel somethin'.
Let me dig a little deeper:.
No, still nothin'.

The moment she was stnding level with the head table she turned and adressed the entire school.

It's a desperate situation, no tellin' what you'll do.
If I don't forgive you, you say your life is through.
C'mon, gimme somethin' I can use:
My give-a-damn's busted.

Slowly she made her back over to the Slytherin table.

Well, I really wanna care.
I wanna feel somethin'.
Let me dig a little deeper:
No, man sorry.
Just nothin', you know.
You've really done it this time, ha, ha.
My give-a-damn's busted.

As the last beat of the song ended Lily smiled and walked to Severus and whispered for his ears only, "I mean it. My give a damn is busted. If I hear you call anyone a mudblood again I won;t be able to hold back my anger."

With that she walked out of the great hall and to this day Severus Snape has not called anyone a mudblood.
