When Robin woke up, she didn't realise that it had been the doorbell that woke her. But then the bell ran again... and didn't stop anymore. She cursed and stumbled to the kitchen window. She looked down and saw something that surprised her completely. Lily was standing there in the rain, looking up to her window. This itself wasn't a suprise, really. But there was an expression on her face that Robin had never seen. Lily looked broken. Like a shattered glass. Like a bird without wings.

When she opened her door, Lily never once met her friends eyes. And Robin didn't need to ask any questions, Robin didn't need to hear the reason that made Lily show up here in the middle of the night. again. All Robin needed to do was to take Lily's hand and lead her to the sofa. She pulled her friend into an intimate embrace, whispered all those silly things you are supposed to whisper in situations like that, and slowly stroke her hair. Lily was silently crying and sobbing in her arms. It was only after a long time that the younger woman seemed to finally calm down. Not long after that Lily's mouth found hers. And there was a longing and desperation in the way lily's tongue tried to find her way into robin's mouth. so robin gave in. completely surrendered to whatever this was supposed to be. surrendered herself to lily. just like she always does on lily's nightly visits. when the red head was feeling alone or vunerable. That was the problem and also nature of their relationship. Whenever lily had a problem she would come and see her friend robin. But only if she felt utterly lost, alone and vunerable, she would come and find comfort in the arms of her lover Robin. For Lily this seemed to be enough. For Robin it wasn't. Never had been.

When sunlight woke Robin up, lily had already gone. vanished. like she hadn't even been here. same procecure as every year, miss sophie. robin knew full well that lily must feel guilty about what they share. because of marshall. but then again, lily had been so devastated last night that robin assumed something might have happened between the two of them. but she didn't dare to hope. and lily hadn't said a single word the whole night, all that escaped her mouth had been moans and other undefinable but oh so sweet noises. So Robin couldn't be sure about the reason why Lily showed up. But she wished she could be, because then there was a tiny chance that what they had now would evolve into a relationship. a real one. And even tough that thought scared robin, she knew that that's what she wanted. She had wanted it ever since she had been introduced to the unbelievable hot red hair. She had wanted it ever since lily's first visit. Ever since they met in secret the next day and Lily had tried to shrug it of as an miststake and one time thing. but it did happened again. and again. and again.

She had just finished her first cup of coffee, dreaming of lily and a future without marshall, when the doorbell rang once more. Robin jumped at the noise, then made her way through the living room towards the door. There was a knock, so Robin concluded the person must be already inside the building. Maybe a neighbour? She opened the door and stopped dead in the middle of her greeting as she saw who was standing there. Marshall. And he looked furious, nearly mad. Robin had never seen him like this. A furious Marshall scared her. He stepped in and closed the door before he finally turned around again to face her and spat:
"is this a bad time?
