Proposing:

Once again Syaoran stared at the small black box in his hand. This would change his life, and hers. If only he could get enough courage to ask the question.

"Hello Syaoran" Sakura greeted cheerfully "are you okay?"

The moment he had heard her voice, Syaoran had jumped and pushed the box deep into his pocket.

"Hello Sakura" he stuttered "no, I mean, I'm fine... really."

"Okay, I wanted to know if you wanted to go out to dinner with me. You are leaving tomorrow morning."

Syaoran smiled forcefully.

"Sure Sakura, I'd be delighted to" he said.

"Are you okay?" she approached him and placed a hand on his forehead "you haven't been acting well lately."

"I'm fine" he stuttered "really."

She didn't seem to be completely sure.

"Sakura" his cousin Meiling spoke, sticking her head in the door "do you want to look over the new fashions magazdine with me?"

"Sure" Sakura followed his cousin from the room.

Syaoran sighed with relief and collapsed on the bed.

"Coward" he muttered angrily, taking out the box to look at it "how difficult can it be to...?"

"Hello Syaoran" Meiling greeted cheerfully.

Syaoran jumped and watched with horror as he dropped the box and it fell at Meiling's feet.

"What's this?" she asked. She stooped and picked it up. He held his breath as she opened it.

"Oh, Syaoran, I love it" she praised, staring at the engagement ring.

Syaoran moaned.

Meiling smiled and looked at him "and I'm sure that Sakura will love it too. The cherry blossoms are a nice touch" she handed it back to him.

"Do you think that she'll like it?" he asked, almost desperately.

"Of course. When will you propse?"

"I don't know, I'm so nervous. Maybe tonight. She asked me out to dinner."

"I'm sure she'll say yes."

--------------------------------------

"Syaoran, I'm so sorry, but I can't make it" Sakura apologized "dad got invited out to dinner and I have to come. Are you angry?"

Syaoran smiled. Maybe he shoud just ask her now "of course not Sakura. I have a question for you though. I had been planning to ask you at dinner, but I guess I'll have to do it now."

"What is it?" Sakura asked.

"Will you marry me?"

He heard a phone get slammed down. He inwardly winced, most likely Touya had listened in on the conversation.

Sakura was silent with amazement.

"I have the ring right here" Syaoran added quickly "and I mean to give it to you. If...are you angry?"

"of course I not" Sakura gushed "of course I'll marry you."

Syaoran smiled "I have a plane ticket for you so that you can come with me "he told her.

He could almost hear her smile "I'm glad that you won't leave me."

"Of course not. I'll see you at 10."

Once he hung up the phone, Syaoran began to cheer. Maybe proposing hadn't been that awful after all.
