Summary/Spoilers: Post-"Night"
The atmosphere in the Squadroom of the 16th precinct was not pleasant. The detectives were still trying to grasp the idea that Casey had been attacked, at the DA's office no less. Munch and Fin sat at their respective desks, going over files for the case they'd been assigned to. Olivia was visiting Casey at the hospital, and Elliot was investigating the attack.
The room was relieved from the heavy silence when the double doors swung open, revealing Olivia. She quickly greeted John and Fin, informing them of Casey's condition, then went upstairs to the crib. She sat on one of the beds and put her head in her hands.
A short while later, the doors once again opened, this time revealing an agitated Elliot. He glanced around the Squadroom and noticed that Olivia wasn't there.
"Hey, is Olivia back yet?" he asked.
"Yeah, she went up to the crib about five or ten minutes ago," Fin answered.
Elliot ascended the stairs, his agitation replaced with concern, and slowly opened the door. Olivia glanced up to see who was at the door, her eyes wet with tears.
"Oh, Liv," Elliot said softly and immediately went to her. He gathered her in his arms and held her while she cried. "It'll be okay," he soothed. "Casey will recover quickly." He stroked her hair and whisper words of comfort into her ear.
Olivia pulled back a little and sniffled, wiping her eyes. "I should've been there, El," she whispered. "I shouldn't have left."
"Liv, there was no way you could've known that this would happen," he said, gazing into her eyes. "You hear me? Don't go blaming yourself. No one blames you, so you can't either, got it? It's not your fault." He emphasized the last four words.
Olivia sniffled again. "I know, but I still feel horrible."
"One of your best friends was attacked and is in the hospital. You have every right to feel horrible. But you cannot feel horrible about leaving for coffee, okay?" Olivia nodded. "Do you want me to take you home?" Again, she nodded. "Let me go clear it with Cragen and I'll be right back." Elliot got up and made his way to the captain's office. He knocked on the door and entered.
"Is it okay if I take Olivia home? She's taking the attack pretty hard."
Cragen's face softened. "Of course, go right ahead."
Elliot went back up to the crib. "Come on, Liv, I'll take you home," he said with a comforting smile.
Olivia got up from the bed and walked to the door. Elliot placed his hand on the small of her back and led her down the stairs. The two exited the squad room and went down to the car. The ride to Olivia's apartment was silent, but Elliot held her hand while he drove, silently letting her know that he was there for her. He pulled up to her building and walked her up after parking the car.
He waited while she unlocked the door, then followed her inside.
"Do you need anything?" he asked.
Olivia shook her head and smiled her thanks, then sat on the couch. Elliot joined her and put his arm around her.
"You okay?"
"Yeah, I think so," she replied and rested her head on Elliot's shoulder. Elliot pressed a kiss to her forehead and gave her a one-armed hug. Olivia smiled at the gesture and closed her eyes. Soon, her breathing slowed and she was asleep.
Elliot draped a blanket over them and maneuvered them so they were lying on the couch. Olivia snuggled up to Elliot's chest, and Elliot wrapped his arms around her. His grew heavy and he, too, fell asleep.
