Magenta was finally alone with Riff at last! With the castle safely back on the sweet shores of Transsexual she felt at home again. Riff was in a particularly caring mood, more open with her than usual. With Frank gone, he had lost a lot of his shyness and was almost back to his usual, sensual self.
Riff felt at home again at last. He had been longing for the sweet music and dance of his planet. Riff had dreamed of playing Magenta the song he wrote for her. He had written it in the early hours of the mornings when he couldn't sleep. He felt so homesick and had taken out his passion, grief and rage on the new earth instruments. To him music was a science that Frank could never take away from his soul.
They lay together on the silky softness of the cushioned zenroom floor. Candles lit the room as a quiet incense curled its smoke around the ceiling. Riff plucked up the courage to play his song for Magenta. He sat on the windowsill, facing away from her as he thought he would cry if he looked into her beautiful eyes. The moon drenched shores glittered darkly behind him, making him a silhouette. Magenta stared and listened in wonder at her lover's song. She could feel the passion in his quiet lyrics as if he was shouting them from thunderclouds, she could feel the passion as if he was whispering softly beside her. When he had finished, he still could not look at her, he felt he couldn't turn around and face her. What if she hated it? Thought him a fool? There was a silence in the zenroom.
Magenta came to the windowsill, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind. She buried her face in his blonde hair, trying to communicate with him. When she sat with him, he bowed his head to avoid her gaze.
"Why are you afraid?" she whispered. The whisper seemed loud in the midnight air. Slowly, Riff raised his head and looked at the reflection of them in the sea below.
He saw two lovers, beautiful and innocent – entwined on the window to the moon drenched world. As one, they turned inwards to each other and kissed. They couldn't let each other go, not now. When the sun rose, the two lovers reflection melted in the dawn.
