"Hey, Kris, can I talk to you outside for a minute?" Junior asked her at the party that was given at Raintree for her after she had won the Breeder's.
"Um, yeah in a few minutes. Jean looks like she's gonna-" Kris began, but was cut off by a speech Jean had begun to make.
"I'd just like to thank everyone at Raintree. We're one big family, and I know Kris and Wildfire couldn't have done it without the support of all of us," Jean said with a big smile on her face. Everyone clapped and smiled at Kris, Junior's being the biggest. She returned the smile as he held out his hand for her to take. Realizing mostly everyone had gone back to conversation amongst themselves, she took it and walked outside with him.
"Okay, close you're eyes. Hey! No peeking. I'll solve the problem," Junior said, covering Kris' eyes so that she couldn't see. He led her to the barn, where a surprise bigger than she had ever imagined awaited her.
"Step up," Junior told her as he did too, still keeping her eyes covered. She did as she was told, beginning to giggle. He walked her over to the stall, and she opened her eyes.
"Junior," she said. "Wha-What is that? I-I mean wha- wh- what?" Kris asked unbelievingly as she looked at Flame wrapped in a big red bow, brushed with his coat looking shiny.
"Well, he wanted to look spiffy for his new owner." She looked at him in confusion. "You," he said, a hint of smile on his face.
"Junior! You didn't! Y-You! Oh my god! I can't believe this, you are so amazing," Kris said as she looked up at him with stars in her eyes and grabbed his arms, shaking him.
"Well, I was thinking, while you're in Europe with Kerry, I could, um, well I could start his training..." he trailed off, waiting for Kris' reaction. She had shock on her face.
"Training?" she asked him, not believing him. God, he is so sweet, she thought to herself. He's just, god, no one has ever done anything this amazing for me before. It was soo... Kris thought, but was cut off by Junior speaking again.
"I would do anything..." he trailed off and looked her deeply in the eye. "Kris, please, don't go," he looked down, trying to figure out how to say this. Okay, just get it over with and say it, he thought. "I love you," it came out softly, he wasn't sure if she had even heard him. He felt embarrassed.
She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. This moment would be something she would always remember. This was absolutely the most amazing thing anyone had ever done for her. She felt as if everything was in slow motion as Junior leaned in to kiss her after she smiled. He gently brushed his lips against hers. She kissed him back with much more force, sure she would bruise both of their lips in the process. His tongue timidly wandered into her mouth, and she sighed, forgetting how wonderful it was to be kissed by him. They walked backwards, to her trailer. Just then her cellphone rang.
"I'm so sorry, I'll turn it off," she told Junior as she held down the end button and stuck it back in her pocket.
They wasted no time in picking up where they had left off. They went into her trailer and Junior slammed the door behind them, both of them laughing at their eagerness. He gently pinned her up against the counter, unzipping her jacket as she undid his shirt. They walked to her bed and fell down on it, getting caught up in the moment. They piled the rest of the clothes hastily on the floor and had a night of passion that wouldn't ever be forgotten by either of them.
Afterwards, as they were laying in bed, it occurred to Kris that she had gotten so caught up, she had forgotten the most important thing. She rolled over to face Junior, looked him in the eye, and said, "I love you too," with a smile on her face.
"Well, I hope so," Junior said as they met in a sweet kiss before they both fell asleep, their bodies making a shape similar to a heart in the bed.
