It was a friday, and every kid in Aberdale was filled with excitement. Their minds raced as they thought about what they were going to do. But not Kate. She sat at her locker, scribbling away in the yellow diary. Kate didn't notice Jeff until she heard him say, "What are you doing in the floor?" Kate slammed the book shut and hopped up. She sprayed some stuff from the metal can on her behind and her back. " Can you believe Miss Baker could go on for one hour about the entire history of dirt?" Kate nervously tried to change the subject. She hoped that Jeff hadn't saw what she wrote. "Anyways, wanna come with me to the Guyscraper?" Kate scratched her head in confusion, "The what now?" "The Guyscraper," Jeff began, "it's a place where the guys hang out, but Im sure you'll be welcome." Kate looked at him in disbelief, but agreed anyways. Besides, how bad could they be?
Kate climbed up a rickety rope after Jeff, carefully avoiding the spit that covered some of it. "It's *gulp* lovely," Kate said, her voice quivering. Jeff nodded, "I know it's nasty, but what they do is pretty fun." Kate reached a wooden, slightly splintering platform. She could see a bunch of boys from her class racing with lobsters. The whistle dangled from Jeff's neck as he ran inside. Kate slowly walked in after him. It seemed as though all the boys had an instinct of when a girl is nearby, because everything stopped. A bald headed boy looked my way. "Why is she here? You know no girl's allowed," he said in a raspy voice. Jeff poked him in the chest, " She should be welcome, Kate's not like the other girls, Sumo." Jeff looked over, " Isn't that right?" Kate could feel every bone in her body melting with embarassment, "Yeah, glitter gets everywhere, Im allergic to nail polish, and I dont trade stickers. That's just crazy stuff." Sumo narrowed his eyes. "Fine," he grumbled. Jeff and Kate heard something stomping, and look behind them. A chubby, blond, goofy-looking boy popped through the window. "Oh hey Clarence," Jeff said with relief. "Guess who I met at the store today? It's Chelsea!" A girl with large, brown, poofy hair and braces popped up. The boys screamed.
Jeff blew his whistle, "Violation! Girl!" Chelsea shot him a look, "Well she's here!" Jeff pointed at Kate, "She's, erm, different!" Kate made a worried face and backed away. "Just keep me out of it," she said. Chelsea crawled in. "Welcome," Clarence said, "to the Guyscraper!" Chelsea looked around. "Its just a regular treehouse." The boys gasped. "It's a special place," declared Sumo, stomping his foot on the wood. Chelsea rolled her eyes. "This is where the grossest stuff happens," Sumo began, "we do all sorts of NASTY stuff." Kate's eyes widened. What has Jeff gotten me into, Kate thought. A smaller boy shoved a centipede in Chelsea's face. Chelsea yawned in boredom. Sumo came over with a big bucket labeled SPIT. He stuck his finger inside. Kate gulped, trying not to vomit. Chelsea stuck her WHOLE HAND into it. Sumo grumbled and carried it away. Jeff and Kate sat next to eachother, gripping disinfectant spray.
Then the worst thing happened. All the boys, including Clarence, were sharing gross stories around like a wildfire. Jeff and Kate heard the stories, but rather they had spent their time throwing up in a bucket. After nearly puking up their lunch, they went back inside. Chelsea and Sumo were face-to-face, yelling at each other. Their eyes full of hatred. "It cant get any worse can it," Jeff said, secretly holding Kate's hand. Kate didnt feel it being that she had sanitary gloves on. Sumo and Chelsea yelled for 5 minutes tops, then stopped to take a breathe. The two, without warning, locked lips. Jeff and Kate stared in horror, their jaws dropping in horror. The two scrambled out, the other boys following them. Kate and Jeff slid down the ladder and ran to Jeff's house. Kate took one last vomit session in the yard. "WHY ME," she cried, holding her stomach. Jeff patted her back, "At least its over."
