Broken Hearts
You shook holding it
Cold unfeeling steel
Like your eyes
Staring into my soul
We both knew coming in
That only one of us would leave
Still we came
Just like we always do
I shivered in the cold
Never did make the best choices
You whisper in my ear
Like the lover you once were
'Why?'
I laugh out loud unable
to stop because
Here we are at the end
Asking the same questions
From before it started
You press something cold into
My hand and
I know you just wanted my answer
But that was always our problem
Wanting what we can't have
My finger trembled on the cold steel
You look in my eyes for an answer
But I close them
And whisper softly 'broken
Hearts don't always heal'
You laugh because you know
It you who was responsible
For all the damage we caused
Pausing for a quick glance
At what we use to be
The trigger was pulled
Your last breathe was for only me
It told the truth
Some broken hearts don't heal
