Snape had heard the rumors. Every person he heard them from was scared to even visit Godric's Hollow for fear of discovering the Dark Lord still inside. He was not scared of the Dark Lord since he was a "member" of the Death Eaters. He had to go find out, that was essential.

He Apparated to the street in front of the Potters house, a place he had Apparated to many times before just to get a glimpse of her. The house stood dark and dead, so highly contrasted from the last time he had been here. Part of the rumors were true, the house was destroyed. He was secretly hoping in the back of his mind, the other part was not. He ventured slowly to the already broken door and crept inside. In the small hallway leading from the door he found the dead James Potter. Not that he cared about that. Snape spit at him and kept walking through the remains of the house.

He reached the stairs, figuring the baby's nursery was the first place she would go. As he climbed each step he dreaded what he would find, seeing as the Dark Lord had not spared James.

His heart beat rapidly every time he thought about it. He walked down the hallway and reached a door with a nameplate of "Harry." With a sigh he opened the door. He found exactly what he had been dreading; Lily Evans lay on the floor dead. His grief swelled up inside him causing his collapse against the door frame. The loud thump had woken Harry and he began to cry at the lack of attention. Snape began to sob uncontrollably as he crept toward her. Her beautiful emerald green eyes remained open causing him even more pain.

Snape picked up her dead body and hugged her, rocking back and forth with his sobs. As his crying got louder, so did Harry's. He couldn't let go of her. After 10 minutes his arms grew tired and he laid her in his lap, staring into eyes he knew he would never have. Finally, Harry couldn't take being ignored any longer and screamed. The child's scream brought him out of his grief induced trance and he set Lily's head back on the floor. He stood up to retrieve the baby. Snape stared down at Harry and gasped as he realized the green emerald eyes were that of his mothers. Harry reached to be free of his prison and he grasped him under his arms and held him.

With one look at Lily, a tear fell down Snape's cheek, and he would back out to the street.
