I do not own the Heist Society Novels. Please leave a review! There is some slight Kat/Hale. Sorry, I didnt know all of their last names, so the sentencing sounds ridiculous.

OooOooO

"In a world of thieves, the only final crime is stupidity."

-Hunter S. Thompson

"Wouldn't it be awful if the law still hung thieves?" Kat asked her crew. They all laughed a little nervously. They joked of course, but a picture formed in all of their heads that wouldnt let them go.

The air was tense and clouds were grey. From somewhere a voice droned on, a dreadful voice that made the crowd stiffen with a sobriety. Today was not a day for laughter, in particular for five people that the crowd watched.

There was a darkly clad man in the corner of the "stage" whose hands lightly touched a giant wooden lever. He seemed at ease and at peace with this, as though this was not something that would bother him or in any way hinder his sleep.

The voice was commanding and was coming now to a close.

"And so these five people, WW Hale the Fifth, Gabrielle, Simon and the brothers Hamish and Angus Bagshaw, have now been sentenced to hang by the neck until dead for the Crime of theft against the crown, and general thievery."

This was promptly followed by bags being slid over their heads and a noose slid around each throat. It was here that the crowd tensed in silence, waiting for the dreaded pull. No one uttered a sound, not even the parents of the renowned Hale son.

The Black Clad man stopped his light touch and pulled. The floor from under them fell.

No one in the crowd saw the girl turn quickly away and tremble. They did not see her wetted eyes and did not realize that she was the lucky one, the one who got away. No one heard the clopping of her shoes as she trotted from the scene, disturbed and alone.

No one except for the Palace Guard who had caught them. Nick had saved her and her alone, because it was her that he loved. Even if it wasn't him that she loved back, but instead for another man.

...the picture faded.

Unsettled at the sudden thought, all of the teens put on smiles of bravado. Unbeknownst to them all, the same picture had formed in their minds and had given them chills.

"It doesn't matter. We're too good to get caught." Hale said (though secretly he was slightly bugged.) Gabrielle tossed her head and snorted in disdain. "I don't think they actually hung women publicly back then."

The Bagshaws shrugged, slightly apalled to think of a time and place where explosives were not part of a job.

"It hardly matters anyway. They DON'T" Kat remarked, finally putting an end to the nervous atmosphere even though it had been she who had started it. They chuckled and continued to plan for a heist that would (hopefully) go without getting caught and no deaths.

And still "What if?" would be with them.

OooOooO

End! Of course, if her crew were to be hanged Kat would naturally die trying to save them. I just didnt put that in...because well it was more dramatic this way. Please leave a review!

OooOooO

Okay, that was a fail. I'll probably delete this.
