AN: Based on the song, Don't Walk Away (Hence the title) by Michael Jackson. I legit cried while writing this because the song hits me that hard, and it brought up past experiences, and I am not a crier.
Calleigh's cancer hit her hard. Her blonde locks were replaced with patches of hair that were scattered around her head. Eric walked into her hospital room. The room she subsided in for the past three months smelled like vanilla. Eric inhaled the scent, knowing it would be the last time he would smell her.
"Eric." Her raspy sounded voice shattered Eric's thoughts.
"Baby, you're awake."
"Now why would I be sleeping if I knew my hunk was coming to see me?" Her smile shone harder that the first one Eric saw.
Calleigh and Eric's wedding song came on her shuffle. "Can we dance?"
"I try but all my pain gets in the way."
Eric sniffled his nose, "Cal…"
"No, don't make this harder than it really is." She pinched the bridge of her nose before a few tears ran down the side of her face. "I just pretend that nothing's there. I pretend I can brush out my hair and go to work." More tears filled her eyes. "That we can make love and not have any complications, Eric." He walked over to her and laid down in the bed with her.
His arm wrapped around her head, his fingers massaging her cheek.
"If you go, I won't forget you girl, can't you see, that you will always be? Even though I had to let you go, there's nothing left to do." Eric started to cry. He knew it was the last moment he would spend with Calleigh: his pride and joy, best friend, and lover.
"Eric, I'm going to miss the hell out of guns." Calleigh closed her eyes, dozing off into a sleep that she will never wake up from.
"I close my eyes," By this point, Eric completely lost control of the whole situation. "Just to try and see you smile one more time." He kissed the top of her head and got up; for once, he left the hospital without Calleigh, and tears free falling.
