Of course, I don't own the rights to Suzumiya Haruhi. Probably best that I don't, as well.
She tries far too hard to make the world notice her.
I don't think anyone else really notices, of course. I mean, that tough girl attitude she puts up, that whole acting out and creating a ruckus, it's pretty convincing. People think she's insane or eccentric or at the very least weird, because she tries so hard to make them think that.
But Haruhi doesn't fool me.
I wake up, and Haruhi is staring at my face, watching me sleep. She panics, starts fidgeting around as I slowly raise my head. She tries to hide what she was doing by demanding her cardigan back, but I notice.
At heart, Haruhi is still just a little girl. A lonely one, too. It's a bit hard to see, I understand, but if squint hard enough, it all becomes obvious. Haruhi has her own moments of weakness, of loneliness, of humanity. The SOS Brigade is her only source of friendship, and she still feels odd having others approve of her.
Outside the open sliding doors stood three solemn looking girls.
Surprisingly, Haruhi looked hesitant. She slowly stood up, but had no intention of moving. In the end she even said,
"Kyon, come with me."
Haruhi doesn't really believe the things she says. As much as she wants sliders, ESPers, aliens, and time travelers to exist, she knows they can't (or shouldn't). She never lets others know that it is all just a facade, just a mask she puts on. If people realized she was normal, how could anyone notice her?
"Do you ever get the feeling you're just a small nail on this Earth?"
She continued, "I have, and I'll never forget it."
Haruhi could never be described as a small nail on the Earth. Just within her own school club, she has people who believe her to be God, the key to evolution, and a time quake. She doesn't go unnoticed by others, even if she thinks so.
If that is so, what do I think of her?
Haruhi tries far too hard to make the world notice her, and in way, fails in the process.
I notice her, though. I notice the real Haruhi, the human Haruhi.
And I think she is far more interesting.
Still trying to get the hang of writing well enough to be bearable. I know this is short and admittedly mediocre, but if anyone wouldn't mind betaing occasionally it would be great. Reviews are much appreciated.
