The Attempt, A Failed One

I can't get these weapons to fit

On a Mad Cat but I want its speed

And the 75-ton weight chassis

With jump jets but the Night Gyr

Is a little slow

Although I really love the A configuration's weaponry I can't

Get a 75 tonner

With a 5/8/5 movement rate

A heavy autocannon, some form of streak missile launcher

And more than one Large Pulse laser onto a stock chassis

That won't overheat and can carry decent armor

And I'm always short about four tons

And its driving me nuts I spent

At least an hour pouring over the specs on the Mad Cat

Night Gyr and Thor trying to figure out a decent configuration,

And I almost had one once but I forgot about the jump jets.

The big problem on the Night Gyr is its lack of space and I want

A better movement rate and it has very little internal space

The Mad Cat has more speed and carries more heat sinks so I

Can spend less tonnage on those and save space but it's got ten

Less tons than the Night Gyr and I lose five of the twenty eight

Straight off on jump jets and I want a heavy ultra AC with three tons

Of ammo like on the Night Gyr A and some decent long range weaponry

But that's only eight tons and I want either a Large pulse laser or a PPC

And a missile system, because the character I have has gunnery/missile

And I don't want to waste it and Streaks are wonderful to shoot because

They don't fire if you don't lock on so they don't waste heat or ammo

But the Streak 6 and ammo and two pulse lasers means I have no ranged weaponry, and I'd

Like either the accuracy of a pulse laser or the damage of a PPC and this

Has been driving me nuts

If I didn't have to have the ultra AC/20 on there I would be fine

But autocannons are so big anyway there's no point in having any but the largest

And since my guy also has gunnery/ballistic I don't want to waste that skill

Nor do I want to put on Machine guns that can't go farther than three hexes

And a Gauss rifle is nice, but an autocannon is better and the beam weapons have better range and no minimum range, and they don't explode when they take

A critical hit nor do they have ammo problems

Although Gauss rifles generate virtually no heat

Lessee… Gauss rifle, two tons ammo, jump jets

Nineteen

Streak six, one ammo

Twenty-three

Five tons remaining

I could go with a streak four…

Twenty-two

Nah, streak six

Twenty-three

Since the Gauss works out to long range, I could put on a pair of

Medium pulse lasers

Twenty-seven

Or a pair of medium lasers and a targeting computer

Which is twenty-eight, but I get a –1 target modifier

For the gauss rifle and the lasers

And better range on the lasers

So a gauss rifle Streak six and two medium lasers is

Twelve, fifteen, and fourteen

Forty one

Forty-one?

Maybe heavy lasers…

Ten, twenty, thirty-five, forty-seven

Not great on accuracy, though

Now I'll NEED the targeting computer

Although I won't have heat problems, that's

Seven, fourteen, eighteen, nineteen

And a Mad Cat carries fifteen doubles, which is thirty

Hmm

It's got the jets, a long-range weapon

A streak launcher

And the two lasers

But it just doesn't compare to the Night Gyr A

Which doesn't have the speed of the Mad Cat

But it's got the weaponry and pretty good armor

Yeeeeesh!  No wonder Natasha Kerensky piloted a Daishi

That variant's got everything BUT speed, and even then it can run

Five

But I want a Heavy, Mobile omnimech with enough firepower, armor, and jump capability to outdo anything

And I may have to stick with the Night Gyr

Arrghh!  But the thing has to run to make itself a difficult target,

Mad Cats can usually walk and move at least three hexes

It's going to be a long night…
