On her days off, if Charmy Pappitson wasn't eating delicious food, she was daydreaming about it. She sat in the floor of the common room listening to happy pop music, cutting and pasting pictures of food, chefs, and restaurants into her scrapbook entitled "Charmy's Amazing Food Wishlist".
She lounged on sheep fluff pillows with large plates of crispy snacks, cookies, and her favorite cherry pop surrounding her. The rest of the floor was littered with colored pencils, a pair of scissors, and a gluestick. It was difficult, even for someone like Yami, not to get caught up in her enthusiasm.
Occasionally, he'd get nostalgic for his homeland, and he'd describe dishes he'd eaten as a child that Charmy was unfamiliar with. She'd added a lot of seafood dishes to her scrapbook because of memories he shared.
"You ever had sashimi?" He asked.
"La?"
"Basically, you take freshest fish, cut it up, thin like, serve it raw, with soy sauce, and rice on the side."
"Where can I get it?" Charmy looked starry eyed. "What does it look like? I need a picture for the book, now!"
Yami scribbled a fish on the page. Charmy snatched the pencil from his hand.
"No! No! No!"
"I never said I could draw it. If we were near the ocean, I could catch you a fish and I could prepare it."
Charmy sketched an almost perfect fish. "Where do you cut it?"
To Yami's amusement, her artistic skills were flawless when it came to all things food related. He drew some slash marks on the fish.
"La! Now describe the plating."
"It's kinda like this." He drew a circle with some badly placed rectangles on it. He added another circle for a bowl and little lines that were supposed to be rice.
"You really can't draw, can you?" She laughed. She cut out his drawings and glued them into her book. She'd do some research for some better pictures later. "We can't get it here, can we?"
"Nah," he answered. "The fish really needs to be caught that morning for the best taste."
He told her a few more things about catching and preparing fish. She wrote it all down in her book.
"When we go to the coast, remind me. We'll make it."
"Promise?"
"Yeah."
She smiled and went back to cutting pictures from her food magazines. Yami smiled wistfully. Even though he sometimes missed his home, he knew he could share little pieces of it with his teammates.
