Tidus sat on a leaf under a part of the Kilika docks, eating his cookies. Yes, he knew, eating cookies under a dock wasn't exactly the most pleasant life. He would hear footsteps all the time, it would disturb his sleep-but he got his infinite amount of KiKo cookies.
You couldn't ask for more when you were dead, anyway.
So he sat there all day. He chose Kilika (not because of them making his KiKo cookies) because thats where he saw Yuna dance. Her dance of death. He always said he never wanted to see it ever again...but she was just so beautiful when she danced, her toes lingering on the water, her hair twirling about her face. He always hoped she would come here every so often.
He only saw her once so far, when she came because fiends were in the temples (he was a very good eavesdropper under those docks)and she felt she had to do something.
It had been just a normal day, him eating his beloved KiKo's, occasionally strolling up to the water, you know, the usual. As he was heading back, he saw her.
It was if he hadn't seen her in a thousand years...she was so...different.
She didn't seem prude at all anymore. I mean, not that she was or anything. Her long blue skirt was gone, now replaced by teeny weeny shorts and a blue half skirt. She still had her black boots which donned her legs, but with the skirt gone, her legs looked so much more suggestive. Was that even proper? He knew people who showed a lot of skin-Lulu, Donna, Rikku on some occasions, but he never thought Yuna- his sweet little innocent would be wearing this. Her shirt was cut down the middle...and thats where he froze.
His symbol...the Zanarkand Abes symbol, the one he wore around his neck, on his earring, on his arm, was on her skin. Was that a tattoo? He hoped not. That would be so unattractive.
Her hair was shorter now, more "flippy" as Rikku would call it. He finally made his way up to her eyes. Ahh...it seemed that her gaze was the only thing he could find comfort in anymore...except for his cookies. But those eyes- the startling green and soft blue had etched his heart the first time he layed eyes on her. They still held the same kindness, innocence, and a little mischief, but there was another emotion in there. He took a step closer.
She wasn't looking his way anymore, but she was in such close proximity he thought he could touch her. He reached out and reached for her cheek...
And felt her. This had never happened before. Maybe the Fayth was being nice today?
Softness lingered at his fingertips. He knew she couldn't feel it, but as long as he could, it would be okay. Just a little reassurance for his dreams, thats all. He took his hand off quickly, as if it burned for her not to know he was there. She looked past him and once again he looked into her eyes...and saw it.
Love.
That was the emotion he couldn't determine from far away.
His heart ached. How he longed to be with her again, to get the old times back, but it wouldn't happen.
He caressed her cheek once more before he left, and as he pulled away he saw her head jerk.
"Yunie? Are you okay?", he heard Rikku ask. Yuna touched her cheek lightly, placing her hand where his had been.
"I'm fine, I just thought I felt something. Ready for the temple?" she said, pulling her hand away and winding it in the hem of her skirt. Rikku giggled and ran ahead. Yuna laughed and started to run after her.
He stood there shocked. Did she feel him? Was she yearning for him as much as he was for her? Tidus was about to turn his head but she looked back. His eyes locked on hers. She seemed to look for something around where he was. Why wasn't she looking at him?
Oh right. He was dead. A spirit. Transparent.
He sighed and watched as she walked away, and he solemnly reached for his box of KiKos and shoved down three.
"Gotta go buy a new box."
