Bethany Martin pushed the door open to her house, she had tears streaming down her face. She had just come home from school, her uniform was completely dirty. Her blazer had been torn and her tights had a huge hole going down her left leg. Her face was blotchy, her hair was all messy and tangled. A group of students picked on her everyday about her dysfunctional family and sexuality.

Nina Martin looked up at her daughter and her face filled with worry. Nina was now fourty-two, having Bethany at the age of 26 with Fabian. Fabian had walked out when Bethany was four, she barely remembers him.

"Bethany, what's wrong, honey?" Nina asked, patting a space for Bethany to sit down. Bethany sat down next to her mother and collapsed into a heap of tears. Nina rubbed her back soothingly and kissed her forehead.

"M-Mom, they h-hate m-m-me." she stuttered, crying. Her eyes were red from all the crying. Nina frowned and a tear escaped from her eyes as well. It hurt her to see her daughter crying, when Fabian had left Nina did not know what to do.

"No, they don't, Bethany." Nina responded, her heart breaking more every time a tear would fall from Bethany's eyes. Bethany looked up at her mom, her blonde hair clinging to her face.

"Yes, they do. They hate every single thing about me, mom! They call me names like 'fake,' 'skank,' 'lesbo,' 'fatass,' and more mom! They take my books and destroy my stuff. They beat me up today mom! This one girl punched my gut and laid there on the ground in pain. No one came to help me, they left me there! They all hate me!" she screamed, crying more and more by the second. Nina's eyes welled with more tears. It was silent for a few minutes, Nina pulled Bethany in for a hug and rubbed her back. Bethany began to calm down.

"No matter what, Bethany, I love you. I don't care if you're bi, straight, gay, transgender, whatever. I love you all the same. Nothing you could say could make me love you less. I'll stand by you no matter what. I love you too much, to tell you mean things or say you're not my daughter because you're a wee bit different." Nina explained, rubbing Bethany's back more.

"I've been there. Do you think it was easy for me as a kid? Grandma and Grandpa died in a car crash and everyday I got teased. Those kids would say things like they killed themselves to get away from me. I would come home crying everyday, and Gran moved me to England. I met wonderful friends like Auntie Amber, Auntie Patricia, Auntie Joy, Uncle Eddie, Uncle Alfie, Uncle Jerome, and most of all your dad." Nina continued, Bethany wiped her tears.

"So what are you saying?" she asked, wiping more tears away. Nina looked Bethany in her eyes.

"Find your Fabian, or your Amber, or your whatever. Whatever and whoever you like, it's okay, because I still love you all the same, Bethany. That will never change, honey. I still love you, Honey Bee." she answered, using Bethany's old nickname making Bethany smile.

"I love you mom." Bethany smiled more, hugging her mom. Nina hugged back and Bethany hurried her head in Nina's neck, sniffling.

"I love you too, Bethany. I don't know what I would ever do without you." Nina replied, sniffling a bit herself.

I'll stand by you.
