The main problem with doing a story in first person perspective is that you only truly know the thoughts of one character! I will still continue to write new life in Trolberg from Jeffery's perspective, but I wanted to do a side story showing the perspectives of other characters that appear in the chapters. Since the first chapter is short I figured it would serve as a nice test. If you enjoyed seeing things from Trevor's eyes than I will continue to show events from the story from his eyes as well as Hilda's and and any other character I feel would have an interesting perspectives!
I was standing in the park, the usual place where I meet up with my friends. Despite, the fact that the whole incident with that bird and Hilda happened a while ago, I still couldn't quite get over it! To make it worst my own friends still don't believe me and even still tease me about it sometimes. Then they have the nerve to tell me to get over it! Maybe I would if you stopped teasing me! I can't take it anymore!
"That stupid talking bird! Now my friends won't believe me! If that wasn't bad enough, I also developed an intense fear of them. All I did was give one a minor injury and what do I get in return? A fear of them for life! Is life that unfair!" I ranted in complete frustration.
Before I could continue to complain, I noticed a boy around my age. He had long black hair with green eyes and he was wearing a black jacket, black boots and regular blue jeans. He must be new. How much did he hear?
"Another new kid? Did you hear me just now?" I asked nervously
The kid took a deep breath with a nervous expression on his face, "Yes, I did. It's none of my business,"
I was extremely pleased with that answer! It looks like he won't be like her and get in the way of our fun!
"Good. I am glad to see someone understands that instead of her," I responded.
"Her?" The boy asked.
I guess I better explain.
"The new kid before you. Her name is Hilda," I answered quickly and as simply as possible.
The kid had a curious look on his face. No doubt he was thinking about her. I must get his mind off her!
"Anyway, my name is Trevor," I told him changing the subject.
"The name's Jeffery," Jeffery responded.
Good! The change in subject worked. Now to make sure he won't end up like Hilda.
"Jeffery, how do you feel about ding dong ditching?" I asked.
"I personally haven't done it, but I am not against it," Jeffery answered.
"Good enough. I think we are going to get along just fine," I told him.
"Ok," He awkwardly said.
He has no problem with it, but I still have to make sure he knows how to do it. Before, Hilda I would never have considered asking if somebody knows how, but sadly that changed.
"You do know how to do it, right?" I asked.
Jeffery blinked twice in confusion, "Who doesn't know how to ding dong ditch?"
I couldn't help but grin. I know it was a stupid question to ask somebody, but like I said Hilda has caused me to consider asking it. I better explain. I tried to keep the topic off her, but somehow it came back to her. I will explain quickly and change the subject again.
"Hilda, didn't! Looking back it actually was kinda funny!" I answered with a chuckle.
Jeffery, seems to be more interested in Hilda then before. Not that I could blame him. I would too if I had just heard of her. I don't want to talk about her more than I have too though. Gotta change the subject, but how? Wait, my friends are here! Perfect! We will spend time with Jeffery. Now that I think about it this could be a second chance for me to befriend another new kid. Luckily, he seems a much better fit for our group!
"Look here are my group of friends. Let's hope our time with you goes better than it did with Hilda," I told him.
Jeffery simply shrugged his shoulders while my grouo of friends walked closer to us.
"Another new kid? Try not to chase him away, Trevor!" The female of our group told me.
Seriously, they still focus on that and they complained about me complaining about that bird!
"Relax! This one knows how to do our activities. Unlike that weirdo," I assured her and the rest of my group.
I looked at Jeffery and noticed he had an offended look on his face before it quickly turned to a neutral expression. What was he offended about? Was it about Hilda? Why? He doesn't know her! Guess he is that good of a kid!
"Good! Because that girl was really weird. Despite, that we were willing to let her stay with us! I even would have loved to teach her how to play our games," My male friend with glasses said.
"No, dwelling on the past! We have a better new kid! One that seems to know better," I responded while giving Jeffery a pat on the back.
Jeffery was confused by my gesture but shrugged it off. I am beginning to like this kid. Even when he is confused or even against our behavior he quickly shrugs it off! I just know things are going to end up beter with Jeffery than it did with Hilda!
"Come on Jeffery! Let's play some kick the can!" I suggested.
I noticed Jeffery smiled as he started following us! This is my second chance to make a new friend and I am not blowing it this time!
It was a lot of fun to piece together Trevor's thoughts. This will be a side project if you all want more. On an unrelated note I am going to work on the nest chapter of Hilda and stitch. Stay tuned!
