CHAPTER 1:
Annie
I stood quietly watching waves crashing into rocks on the shoreline. I knew why it was so quiet - the reaping - even though most people could rest easy, there were still the unfortunate victors who risked going back into the arena. None of us wanted the next day to arrive. I like to come here - the beach - it helps me to relax, but somehow, even being here, I can't help but worry. What if I'm picked ? What if Finnick gets picked? What if we're both picked? I could never kill him, I...I wouldn't - I don't want to kill anyone again. The sun began to set, the sky is so beautiful at this time. The clouds drifted peacefully through the orange-pink sky and the glistening, blue sea began to settle. I didn't want to have to go to the reaping, I just wanted to stay here forever.
Finnick
The streets were so peaceful and quiet, everyone was treating this like a regular reaping. I walked slowly through the winding streets of district 4 until I reached the beach. Annie was stood at the edge of the shore, she was silhouetted under the darkening orange sun. I smiled as I approached, her brown hair was blowing across her face with the gentle breeze. She was the most important thing in the world to me.
Annie
I felt safe and warm as soon as I felt his arm around me. Whenever I'm with Finnick Odair my heart skips a beat, I feel I can be myself - it's like an explosion of different emotions that I can't explain. Suddenly, I remember the reaping and my throat goes dry.
He smiles " You too?"
" What if we're picked?" I manage to reply.
He takes both my hands in his and looks me straight in the eye. " If we are then I'll make sure you get out of there alive and I'll never leave your side, promise"
I stare into his sea-green eyes, they show utter seriousness with every word.
He softly kisses my cheek " I have to go, I promised to go check on Mags"
Just as he turns to leave I begin to cry, I'm still not entirely sure why. He turns back to me.
" hey, I'll see you tomorrow like said, I'll never leave your side"
He Kisses me once again except this time his lips softly press onto mine.
Finnick
I really didn't want to leave Annie, but I'd already made a promise and I didn't want her to worry further. I spoke to Mags - My oldest friend and mentor for the games- she told me that if Annie was picked she would take her place. I didn't know what to do, I couldn't try to protect them both. I left soon after that, Mags didn't seem to mind. I have far too much going on in my head right now, I don't know what to do...
