Kagome Returns
After school the young miko went inside her home to say goodbye to her mother.
"Bye mama! I'm going back now. Tell Souta and Jii-chan goodbye for me," she called.
"Alright sweetheart, be safe," her mother called back.
Kagome made her way over to the ancient well house and entered. Her oversized yellow backpack was already leaning against the well, ready for her, and so she hoisted the pack over her shoulder and jumped into the well. Magical blue lights surrounded her in their warmth as she made her way back to the Feudal Era, five hundred years in the past. After she crossed over, she began climbing the vines that lined the inside of the well to make her way up. When she got to the edge a hand was thrust into her face for her assistance.
"Oi, wench! What took ya so long?" cried her favorite hanyou as he helped her out of the well.
"InuYasha… how many times do I have to tell you not to call me that? Sit!" Kagome shrieked as InuYasha plummeted to the ground.
"Grrrr! Kagome! Let up on that command, would ya! All these sits are killing my back. Anyway let's go. The others missed you and I nearly knocked the brat out for whining so much about when you'd come back," InuYasha said.
"Alright, let's go," the young girl replied with a smile as she followed her companion back to the village.
InuYasha led Kagome back to Kaede's hut where the others were waiting. She hadn't even reached the doorway when an orange fluff ball propelled itself into her chest.
"Kagome! I missed you while you were gone. InuYasha was a big meany saying that you wouldn't bring any Pocky back for me. But that's not true right? You brought me some, didn't you?" Shippou cried.
"Of course I did, Shippou and I missed you, too! I have some Pocky for you right here. But let's go inside first," said Kagome.
Kagome set down her bag when she walked through the door and greeted the demon slayer and her feline demon companion, the monk, and the old miko who were all sitting around the fire pit in the middle of the hut. InuYasha went to take his usual place against the wall as the greetings ended and Kagome handed Shippou his treats.
"So Lady Kagome, how was your time at home? Did you enjoy this school you talk so much about?" Miroku asked, polite and charming as always.
"Yeah the time at home was nice, thank you. But I can't say that I enjoyed school. I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy that," Kagome replied with a smile.
"If it's so unpleasant then why do you make a fuss about going back to it all the time, wench? We could be making good use of time and searching for jewel shards if this school thing of yours is so bad!" InuYasha fussed.
But Kagome just ignored him as she didn't want another fight or argument to break out. She just smiled as she reveled in the fact that she was back in this era where she belonged.
'It really is great to be back.'
