This is the city that never sleeps, right? So I've always had trouble beleiving that no one would hear or see the turtles running, fighting the Foot, or talking on thte rooftops. This fic was born out of my inability to suspend that disbelief.
I do not own The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(luckily for them).
I threw my keys on my kitchen table as I walked into my apartment. My shift had just ended, at 3:30 in the morning, and I was exhausted, still not used to the odd hours after only two days at the this job. I stumbled into my bedroom, kicking off my shoes before collapsing into bed, dreaming of nothing but finally, finally, getting some sleep.
"Stop followin' me, Leo!" Or, not. The speaker-or shouter, more accurately, was male, and sounded about sixteen or seventeen. He had a fairly thick Brooklyn accent, and sounded majorly pissed.
"I'll stop following you when you start listening to sense! You're being irrational, Raphael!" The second voice was also male, roughly the same age, but without the Brooklyn accent. The words had an authoritative air to them, like the speaker was used to being obeyed.
"I ain't irrational, Leonardo," the last word was said mockingly. "I can listen to sense just fine- you just ain't makin' any!" I growled in frustration and shoved my head under my pillow. I'd lived in New York City for years- I'd gotten used to the traffic and the ever-present noises of the city that never sleeps, but trying to ignore an argument going on directly beneath my window while I was trying to fall asleep was a whole other kettle of fish. No matter how loud they got, it was summer in NYC, and it was way too hot to even think about closing the window for however long they were going to go at it. Unfortunately, my thin, cheap pillow was no match for their obnoxiously loud voices.
"Oh yeah? Casey's tried, Don and Mikey've tried, heaven knows I've tried- You won't even listen to April or Master Splinter! You're out of control, Raph!" I gritted my teeth. That was it! The voices were getting even louder! I stuck my head out of my window.
"Listen up, Splintah Juniah. You-"
"Would! You! Shut! Up!" There was a frozen slience for a couple of seconds. I could tell that the two fighters were on the roof of the building beside mine, about fifteen feet below my window, because I could just barely make out their dark shapes in the shadow cast by my building.
"What?"
"You heard me, you loud-mouthed annoying jerk! It's three thirty in the freaking morning! People are trying to sleep here!"
"Oh yeah?" the first voice, Raphael, called back, a sneerpractically audible in his voice. "In case you hadn't noticed, Lady, it's a free city!"
"Not if I call the cops it isn't," I fired back. "Now get lost before I have you arrested for disturbing the peace!"
"Come on Raph, let's just go." That was the second voice I'd heard- Leonardo.
"Fine! Lousy, interferrin'…"
I ducked my head back into my room and crawled back into bed. Finally, I was able to get some rest without loud jerks shooting their mouths off outside my window. As I drifted off to sleep, I wondered vaguely what it was they had been arguing about, but it was forgotten when I finally fell asleep.
The "main" character does not have a name, occupation, age, or backstory. You don't need to know anythig about her beyond the fact that she's tried and pissed off. Idon't know what Leo and Raph were arguing about, or how thyey resolved it.
So, I've discovered that I, being the lazy slob that I am, like one-shots. No updates! Review please!
