AN: This story is a Pathfinder inspired roleplay using characters myself and my boyfriend created. It utilises Pathfinder combat, encounter and progression systems. If you think things are going well, it's only cos the dice said so.

Due to this, is it also purely OC based. Canon characters will only appear out of necessity.

The beginning is set about a year or two before RWBY.

Chapter One

Seeking Huntsman companion for ruin exploration in Kingdom of Vale. Will be working in a two-person team with me. Uncertain length of contract, interest in history appreciated. Contact C. Prisca by Scroll or at the Sunway Hotel & Spa.

A black haired man with ocean green eyes closed his scroll with a small frown. It wasn't that he was running late or read it wrong, in truth he was standing in front of the spa at this very moment. No, the source of the frown was a realization that hit him rather late. Sunway Hotel and Spa was the most expensive hotel in the residential district of Vale. It wasn't some big fancy shindig with diamonds in the fountains or anything, but just by looking at it one could tell that you needed money to stay here. Whoever C. Prisca was, they obviously had a lot of it to be able to stay here for an undetermined length of time.

As he slipped the scroll into a pocket of his long, dark green vest, Ocean silently hoped the place wasn't an indicator to the clients personality. He would have said yes either way, the pay was extremely generous for a tomb exploration mission, but a rotten personality could make any journey unpleasant.

One way to find out, he thought, standing up straighter and striding into the lobby towards the reception. His white leather sneakers squeaked a little on the polished tiles as he entered, and he raised a hand to get the attention of the attendant; a twenty something year old man with slicked back brown hair. He offered a polite but fake smile. "A moment of your time if you will."

"How can I help?" The man replied, glancing up at Ocean before refocusing on the computer in front of him.

"My name's Ocean Wolfram Lambert, Huntsman. I came here seeking a C. Prisca for a mission and they noted they would be residing in this hotel."

"Oh, you're here for the archaeologist," He replied in understanding, "Yeah, she told us to send anyone asking for her straight up. Room 407, fourth floor. She should still be there."

So it's a her, Ocean noted before nodding to the attendant.

"Thank you for your time and have a nice day," he replied while turning towards the elevator, not waiting for a reply. Getting to level four was a simple matter, and finding the room even easier thanks to the layout of the room numbers which went up the further away you were from the elevator. Ocean vaguely noted a chair and a coffee table near room 405 which he could wait at in case she wasn't there, as well as the general state of cleanliness one would expect from a place such as this.

Don't think it's worth the cost personally, he noted, now standing in front of room 407, and after making sure his posture was straight and his black slacks with sea green accents on the pockets were free of dust, he softly knocked on the door 3 times.

"Coming!" A voice called out, and the sound of someone attempting to rush through tidying piles of papers drifted through the door. A general sound of distaste greeted him next, and a few moments later the door swung open to reveal a tall brunette wearing a black singlet and fitted olive jeans. "Can I help you?"

"...Yes," replied Ocean, a little caught off guard by the persons age, in that she looked around his age. "I'm looking for a Miss C. Prisca, she recently opened up a quest for exploring a set of ruins located in Vale and I was told she resides here."

"Oh! Come in, come in, I'll go over the mission and maps with you. I'm Chloe, Chloe Prisca." She beckoned him inside the room, padding her barefoot way back to a coffee table which had a few messy piles of paper stacked on top of it. "I was looking through some old maps and the like as part of my dissertation for my Masters, and I'm pretty sure I actually found an old tomb for like, some leader or something in the eastern parts of the Emerald Forest. I couldn't find anything about it being dug up either, so here I am looking to discover it all for myself!"

She pumped a fist in excitement and shot him a large grin, before turning back to the paper, "Now, which stack did I shove that map in…"

Ocean noted during the fist pump that Chloe's arms were quite toned, which was unusual for a scholar but not so much for an archeologist. Still, if she is as young as I think…

"Is this your first expedition then?" Ocean asked as he made his way to an almost unoccupied chair, save for some scattered papers, hoping she was as talkative as before.

"Well, it's my first solo expedition. I of course did some with the University of Atlas in the third year of my Bachelor's degree, once I had the spare time, and I've been on a few more over the last year as well with some more renowned archaeologists. I know how they go, so we don't need to worry about stuff like not having camping gear and food and stuff." She rambled, before making a triumphant noise, "Ahah! Here we are, my map."

Spring green eyes sparkled as she offered the slip of paper to Ocean, who gave the papers he was pretty much sitting on back to her in return. She took them with a grin, stacking them in a briefcase nearby.

"Any Grimm encountered in those previous expeditions?" He asked while looking over the map. It was pretty old; Ocean doubted half of the landmarks on it were still visible.

"I'm also a Huntress," Chloe stated with a cocky grin, "Graduated with honours out of Atlas two years ago."

Mystery solved, he thought, trying to place the map back on the table so they could both look at it. Chloe cleared a space, dumping more books and papers back in her briefcase without a care for order. As he leant forward, he asked, "What makes you think this map correlates to the eastern part of the Emerald Forest?"

"This," She said, pulling a Kingdom map out of a pocket inside the briefcase. Chloe laid it flat on the table and placed the copy of the older map on top of it, tracing a few similar topography lines, "Plus the text I found it in made mention of a forest that is 'forever green'. There aren't that many evergreen forests around Remnant, and it was a simple case of scouring every map I had access to until I could crosscheck topography and landmarks."

Ocean refrained from commenting on how long scouring all those maps must have taken, his mind more focused on the destination. The Emerald Forest is used by Beacon a lot, so there's always the risk of encountering students while on this mission. I guess that's where I come in. Ocean mused to himself. Realising he had stayed silent for a while, he spoke up, "I'm a graduate of Beacon, so I should be able to handle any confusion if we meet students or Professors from there."

"Oh, a native. Even better." Chloe stated, "Does this mean you're up for the job?"

"That's why I'm here."

"Wonderful," She quipped, "Then if you're ready we can set off at any time. Let me just pack up and settle my bill here. I'll meet you out the front shortly, after I get reception to call for a taxi to the airships."

"I'll wait for you at the entrance," Ocean nodded, musing about the fact that this perceived escort mission had turned into a two man exploration. That combined with Chloe's somewhat airheadedness reminded Ocean of another girl he knew, with rainbow coloured hair, and he couldn't help giving a bemused snort.

He left Chloe behind in her hotel room stacking papers and clothes into packs. Once he reached the elevator, the man pulled out his scroll and typed up a message,

Kolour

Going on a mission to explore a ruin, not sure how long it'll last. Working with Chloe Prisca from Atlas. I'll text.

Ocean.
