The Dwarf Planet

Disclaimer: I do not own any part of the Harry Potter universe. That right belongs to JK Rowling.

"It's a dwarf planet!" shouted Ravenclaw student Elias Goldstein shouts.

Crossing her arms, Hufflepuff student Olive Bones retorts, "No, it's not! It's a normal planet!"

This debate had been going on for quite some time since the daily mail had been delivered and several Muggle-borns had read the headline that Pluto had been rendered a dwarf planet. Unfortunately, this was a blow to several students and they felt the need to say as such. This caused a debate to ensue between some of the more passionate Muggle-borns given that some agreed with the headline while others were strongly offended.

Shaking the paper in the air, Elias shouts, "Scientists have proved it's not a normal planet! There's no arguing with that!"

Knocking the paper aside, Olive retorts, "They'd just as soon write a paper saying we don't exist! You can't believe everything you read so I will argue with that. It's still a real planet!"

"Is not!"

"Is too!"

Frustrated, he pulls out his wand and shouts, "Everte Statum!"

Whipping out her own wand, Olive casts her own spell. "Rictusempra!"

Both students fly backward as McGonagall and Snape ran forward to break it up.

"Goldstein, Bones, what is the meaning of this?" McGonagall asks, taken aback by their abhorred behavior.

"Please, professor, this idiot thinks that Pluto is still considered a planet!" Elias says accusingly, pointing at Bones.

"That's because it is!" Olive yells back.

"What do you think, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape?" Elias inquires, crossing his arms superiorly, certain they were going to agree with him.

The two looked at each other for a second before back at Goldstein and McGonagall asks indifferently, "What's the difference?"

There was an uproar from the Muggle-borns as some sided with Elias and some sided with Olive and argued loudly over the status of the planet as McGonagall and Snape looked at each other again.

Another Muggle-born, Joel Crawford, approaches them and shows the two professors the paper. "Pluto was considered one of the nine main planets, surrounded by many more dwarf planets but due to its size, it had been denominated to a dwarf planet, but some people argue against the Muggle scientists called astronomers and say that it's still a regular planet."

Not seeing the point and considering it all a ridiculous waste of time, Snape arches an eyebrow before asking, "But why are they arguing over it?"

Joel shrugged and pointed to another fight going on a few yards away and asked, "Why are those two purebloods fighting over whether the Cannons or Tornadoes are going to win the
Quidditch match coming up this weekend?"

Both McGonagall and Snape sighed exasperatedly before looking at each other. In a low voice, McGonagall whispers, "I was never here."

"Neither was I," Snape murmurs as they nodded towards each other and went in their separate ways, leaving the Great Hall in worse shape then when they had arrived, the argument remaining unsettled.
