CHAPTER ONE: Awakening
I sat up abruptly in a dark room. The room was just bright enough to see my surroundings but just dark enough to be annoying. I growled nervously, a deep, primal growl. The room grew into clarity around me as my eyes adjusted to the rooms individual brightness. My arms and legs were numb, presumably from disuse. I felt weak and dizzy. Something was squashed under me. I tried to swing my legs over the edge of the bed I was in but immediately felt queasy. I breathed slowly, in my nose, out my mouth. I thought back to before I awoke. I was having a dream. I was chasing a fox. Suddenly, a sword pierced the fox's side. The sword seemed to be made of...a shadowy material. That was all I could remember. I groaned and clenched my teeth. My teeth felt...different. A couple seemed longer, sharper. My head hurt. I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I looked toward the end of the room...no, it had become clear that this was a holding cell. I saw a toilet and a sink with a grimy mirror above it. Clenching my teeth, I crawled toward the toilet, hauled myself up over it, and vomited into it. My tongue felt like sand. I fell back down and lied on the floor. The pain in my head felt like it would split me apart. I'm not sure how long I was lying there, but eventually, the pain subsided and I was able to stand up. I looked at the room, trying to take in more details. The walls seemed roughly carved out of rock. The bed I had awoken on was nothing more than a thin pad on a metal rectangle extending from the wall. My back was certainly feeling that. I hobbled over to the sink and rubbed some of the grime off the mirror. I stepped backwards in shock.
"What-?" I whispered. My head was adorned with pointed fox ears. I bared my teeth and saw that I had fangs. I noticed a motion behind my head. I whipped around and saw a bushy, red fox tail protruding from behind me.
"What the hell?" I yelled. That was when the wall opened.
