"I'm sorry." Her monotone voice broke the silence that had taken over the room. The orange eyes he stared into held an empty look, one that he hadn't seen since years before, when he lost someone dear to him. It hurt.
"It's okay," he said quietly. His face, previously showing a pained expression, broke into a smile. His smile grew wider and he started to laugh. His laugh echoed in the mostly empty room, accompanied by a few sniffles left over from his crying.
"Add. Is something wrong?" The girl in front of him asked, though neither her face nor her voice showed many signs of concern.
"Oh, Eve..." His laughter died down and he reached out a hand to stroke her face. "It's fine. I understand. In order to be powerful..." he sighed. "You had to make a sacrifice. Though this kind of thing... It's selfish of me, but I wish you didn't have to do this."
Eve stared at him. "Emotions are a pointless human thing anyways. I do not need them." Add smiled at this.
"But you liked having them, didn't you?" He asked.
Eve moved her gaze to the nearby wall. "That is... irrelevant now."
Add let out a quiet laugh. "Right. Whatever you say." He sighed again, and the two of them stayed silent for a few moments before Add pulled her close to him and hugged her. "It's okay, you don't have to love me." Eve looked up at him with a slight look of confusion. "At least I know you can't love anyone else. You're still mine," he whispered. Eve nodded and hesitantly wrapped her arms around him. Add closed his eyes, enjoying the hug as much as he could. It wasn't the same as when she loved him, but it was good enough.
"...It's okay."
